Ridden Veteran - showing?

Can any of you guys help me with this? There a couple of shows held at Newbury (berkshire) showground this year which I can easily ride too and wanted to take Mr. P!  to be fair at the moment, we have having a all time low with each other riding wise so I'm doubting what I want to do once at the showground lol.. I don't think jumping - even clear round is an option which is sad news :(

But then I was like..I would love to do Ridden Veteran! But i thought again and realised I had no clue what he should wear, what I should wear and what we would have to do.. So can anyone help me?

I use to do ridden veteran with a welsh cob and an irish show cob, I would say clean matching tack, no saddle cloth or a brown numnah, I would say a tweed jacket, shirt, tie,, long riding boots, jodphurs (canary, ivory etc) It depends on your personal taste really.
What breed/type is he?
My welsh cob was left natural, just scrubbed up well lol and oil, I rode him in black leather tack, double bridle, I had a green tweed jacket, cream shirt and navy and gold tie, navy riding hat, long black boots, cream/ivory jodphurs.
In veteran classes a majority of judges like a good shine, supple movement and a gentle nature but some judges like to see some life in them, My lad was popular as he was forward going and had showy movement, so when your trotting and cantering get him to extend and strutt his stuff!

Hope that helps.

I'd say tweed jacket too, colours to enhance Parsley obviously!

I presume you'll need to do a small show ; walk, trot, canter, circles, figure 8. Thats what I used to do, along with a short gallop (controlled!) Also practise standing him square.

Used to love doing Veteran classes with my old mare , she was such a show off she generally did well!

He looks like one too, so good luck!  And you are SO lucky to have shows you can hack to. I'm jealous lol !

I am, but all the other good stuff is close but transport is so hard to find around here! It's been very frustrating. Thanks for your advice :)

and sorry..controlled gallop!? how does one achieve this? i.e. asking them to do this in a closed space/OR/keep them controlled? This seems impossible

yes agree with the above. plain bridle with cavesson (you can have flash too) noseband with snaffle, you could have nice browband if you wanted but nothing over the top, saddle with no numnah or saddle shaped numnah preferably brown and seeing as little of numnah as possible. what breed is he? this determines whether you plait, trim etc or leave natural. tweed jacket for you with short boots (you're under 16 - yes?) navy hat, black or brown gloves, preferably canary jods with shirt & tie (or stock, whichever is preferred).

would probably be asked to do a showpiece involving walk, trot, canter and gallop down a long side - however you do not need to gallop if you don't want to, an extended/fast canter would be fine. pony needs to be under control though lol

Re: Ridden Veteran - showing?

long boots will be fine then. grackle and a dutch gag is not correct for a ridden showing class, its better if he's in a snaffle (or pelham with double reins) and a cavesson/flash
