Re: Anyone else looking forward to the Olympics ?

Hmm, yes and no!  Yes because it is great for the UK and business, but to be honest as an owner of a small business, I am struggling with orders as everyones focus is now on the Olympics and the Jubilee - sounds silly but talking to other small business owners and the Couriers we use they have all noticed over the last few months or so a real downturn in trade.  This time 2 months ago I was doing 50 plus orders a day - today I have 2!!

Don't they know I have sick horses to care for and need orders to pay for their vet bills !!!!! JOKE!  Oh well I suppose I will have more time to watch all the action on TV

There is no greater gift than to share time with a creature of such beauty - The Horse.

Well I have to admit that I'm very excited about it as I'm going as a volunteer to help on the cross country course! Not too keen on the purple clown uniform though!

It might help tourism and business in London, but it will have possibly a negative impact on our tourism up here in Scotland which is always very healthy, but this year people will probably be making a choice between watching such "important" stuff as beach volleyball (eh, really?) or seeing something worth looking at.  Basically outside of London and surrounding area it won't make a positive difference at all - and how much IS it going to cost to have missiles erected on top of people's homes to divert terrorism and stop someone attacking said beach volleyball player?

agree mel - we had some sort of olympics here in sheffield  - student I think or something or other - where we built swimming pool and games arena some years ago and still paying for it., although they are in in use by ordinary people now.  will watch gymnastics and equestrian  on tv but much prefer paralympics, although tv doesn't cover this as much, and they get more gold medals.  and why build a new cross country down london way, when we have top riders come to chatsworth (event though it was called off due to rain again), burgleigh etc when they have already done cross country, dressage and show jumping at these.

Exactly, there are many venues the length and breadth of BRITAIN which would mean it really is a BRITISH hosted event e.g. my local venue Rowallan Activity Centre has an olympic sized indoor arena and is host to severial premier BSJA events throughout the year, often attended by Geoff Billington and Ellen Whitaker to name but a few, and it has also hosted Home Pony International for the past 3 years not to mention the British Dressage championships last year, and it's owned and run by an actual Lord and Lady which would only have added to the so-called britishness.  There must be loads of venues all over the place and using them would have boosted the economy country wide, and not cost us more to recreate new ones which goodness only knows what will happen to them when it's all over.  Nope, just can't get into all this union jack nonsense when it certainly doesn't benefit my country, or Wales or Ireland for that matter.
