I spend hours a week on my own damn horse, yet I ride other peoples better!?

I am in the middle part of A-Level exam period at the moment which has consciously and subconsciously majorly stressed me out.

I've had two lessons during this period(riding lol) which have ended in monumental disaster and in actual panic attacks and tears. shame on me - say no more LOL. So I've been having a bit of a tough time at the moment and apparently my jumping has also gone down the toilet..

I have no idea what has happened, whether its stress or what but actually jumping at the moment isn't going particularly well..My timing is awful, my position is awful, my hands are awful..the only thing that has remained decent is my legs! So that's ugh.

Also Parsley has been a bit silly lately, I guess it's the fact he's doing a lot more and going new places..he's been getting strong and evading the bit (read other post for more info). So I'm missing out of worthwhile lessons which help with all this and I feel like my riding is a bit crap at the moment..

but I rode my friend's aweeeesome horse today and I'm actually really proud of myself. I felt confident and comfortable and I rode really well..but with Parsley it's like..flop.   Also funny as my friends horse is a temperamental mare of 15'3 -16hh and Parsley is only 13'2 LOL.

Just a rant..had a bit of a weird day riding such different horses..in mind and size. Not sure what's going on with me at the moment to be honest! Cookie for you if you made it through all this..

Anyone else find they get weird phases?

Hi Char, yes I do agree with you about riding other peoples horses better ! I think that maybe we have higher expectations of our own horse and then we tend to beat ourselves up if things don't go quite right. When we are a bit stressed our horses quickly pick up on this, so try not to worry about your jumping as you obviously have alot on your mind atm, it will all come together when you relax and just have fun with Parsley. Have a great weekend, take care, Lyn XX

That is so true Lyn, even my mum says it - I have such massively high expectations of parsley and myself that when we don't quite get it..I get super stressed about it. I just want to have fun on him lol, I must remember this! I just want us (and myself for the future) to be the absolute best I can.

Rosebudd, 1 English Lit, and 2 Sociology. 2 down, 1 to go next Friday. Stilllll stressing! I'm on study leave at the moment..can't say I've done much. I've been with Parsley obviously

xxxxx

oh jeeezzz , you took proper coursework subjects! (haha i took coursework route - doss )

are you in your first year? or second?  yay for study leave! stick post its on his mane for when u ride, revise and ride! haha!

just enjoy him, get on and forget all the crit, how u 'think' you should be doing things (the more you dont focus on something) i feel helps stop the stressing and things 'click' haha i dont know if that makes sense xx

Yep, coursework subjects lol. First year..I have no clue if I'll even get into next year.. My exams have been a flop and I can't explained how worried I am about not getting in. I learn to drive next month so I can't even drive to another college or something yet. UGH. UGH UGH. Poor pony gets all this stress.

I just need to have a couple of weeks enjoying him me thinks. thing is I did (and will) want to take him to some localish shows in the summer. I stupidly thought we could actually compete but things definitely have not turned out like I wanted them to LOL. Now I don't even know if we'll make it round Clear Round! He is so much more experienced and so much more capable than I am which is frustrating. Sometimes, when jumping i feel like deadweight! :( xx

what you need, is to just go, go out for a hack on your own, take it slowly, build your confidence in yourself again, i always feel better for it, just do what you want to do, without feeling pressure or like people are watching you...

you will get to shows! easily, i've seen your videos, your perfectly capable, i think college stuff  is making you feel poop! honestly, the balance between college and horses is a nightmare i swear, i dont know how i am going to pass my art stuff, i have done nothing cos iv been so stressed iv been hacking out as a way of escaping it all! haa..  could you lunge for the next week, until your exam is over? and see if it helps that your exams are done.. once you've sat them you've sat them, wouldnt worry about results until the day xx

i cant drive either!

Well good luck for the next exam, you'll feel a lot better when they're out of the way, and I expect you'll be a lot more relaxed and chilled out.

I'd forget lessons until after then - it sounds like you're not totally concentrating anyway so just hack out and have some fun in the meantime as Lyn and Rosebudd say, Parsley won't mind !!

And then afterwards you can really get down to work with him, you've got plenty of time to get him out to some shows.

Also great news about learning to drive, will you have your own car?
