suppleness

How can i improve my horses suppleness in his neck, its like a plank of wood, no movement at all. I have tryed everything, when he is running around he has loads of movement in it sadly when i ride its stiff. Tack, teeth etc all fine.

Re: suppleness

have to tried just flexing his neck with a polo when you stand just behind his shoulders? i did it once every day and shes gotten better and she stretches better too in the school.

or just lots of tight 3/4 loop serpintines and 15m circles both reins, takes alot of work and time but it will get there.

i know the feeling, i struggle to get an extended trot out of mine, but she would score 100% for it if she was judged in the field :p

I agree with this, an old instructer of mine gave me this tip and it worked like a charm. As well as getting them to turn to either side, you can hold it between their front legs and get them to round their neck and stretch the muscles along the top!
