Breastplates!?

Where we are means there are a lot of rather steep and on going hills to tackle! Fantasic for fitness, but not so great for saddle slip! I ride Roxy in an Albion, second hand, and I will admit that it was not proffesionally fitted, I would of course have a professionally fitted saddle if I could afford one, but saddly I just can't. However, I does seem to fit well and correctly causing no stiffness/soreness, and I have never had any problems with it slipping to the side or liffting up at the front or back, just with with slipping backwards. Therefore, I thought it would be a wise idea to buy a breastplate. I was just wondering whether you guys thought it would be better to buy one that is litrally just a chest 'strap', or more of a five point style one. Bearing in mind I will be using it for jumping also. Or if there is anything else that might help with slipping backwards.

Thanks x

Re: Breastplates!?

A lot of people around here use the plain single strap type, but i prefer the either 3 point breast plate.. D rings and to the girth, and strap over wither. .. or the strap over wither and straps to the girth.. cant think of the technical names right now! i use either my 3 point, or the last one i just described.. my 3 point i use more if i jump as i can attach my martingale :)

Thank you! I think I might go for that, I liked the idea of them better anyway :)

Re: Breastplates!?

i'd definately take a 5 point over a hunting breastplate anyday. mine are both in hunting breastplates, Minty was in a 5 point but I need a new one so he has to make do with a hunting until i can afford another 5 point to match his new saddle. i think they are a lot more secure than a normal breastplate

Re: Breastplates!?

I find this interesting as I am thinking of getting Sabrina a breastplate for jumping also giving something to hang on to but used without the martingale but available if needed.
