Pessoa Training Aid??

I'm considering getting the ponies a pessoa traing aid, as tbh right now I'm not mentally well enough to ride, Buzz is seriously unfit and Winnie is pushing her luck BIGTIME! Obvs Winnie will not be using it till after baby is weaned (its still not here) But buzz would really benefit from it as my sharer rides twice a week and then I'd lunge him in it twice a week and hack the other days. Does anyone use one? have you seen good results?

I have one (well a cheaper version I got on ebay called a top flyte but it's the same thing) and it is really good.  They are excellent for developing muscle and strengthening the back, and are physio recommended for horses with back problems.  My cob is an ex trotter and has had some issues with always going with his head up high (they're trained that way and wear an overcheck so as not to trip over when they're racing full pelt in trot) and it has really helped to encourage him down and to use his back properly, I use it to reinforce what I'm doing in his ridden work.  I initially got it for a horse I had with pelvic injury and it helped in his rehab too.

Never used one but heard lots of good stuff about it.  A recommendation I have heard though is to NOT connect it all up to the bit the first time you use it as some horses go ballistic at something around their back end and if they start broncing they'll hurt their mouths quite badly.

I use one, they are brilliant. Charlie really uses his back end well on it. At first he used to buck really massive on it but he got used to the feeling of the strap around his bum and settled down on it nicely, he doesn't notice it anymore. I ususally use it on the long and low setting but he does go on the more advanced setting for 5 minutes on each rein when i use it as it makes him more responsive for when he is ridden on the bit.

Re: Pessoa Training Aid??

I have a pessoa and jhonestly don't know what I did before it!! It is fab and has made such a difference to my horses - espeically Luna. Luna is welsh and hasa big cresty neck which is set quite high so she finds it diffuclt to bring her head down and as a consequence, she hasa weak back (so said the physio) - the pessoa makes amassive difference to her and the physio said i must be doing somethign right as although she has poor back conformation, she is never sore!

You have to take it steady to begin though as they will obviously find it difficult to start.
