Applying fly repellent

I just discovered this one today, if your horse doesn't like being sprayed with fly repellent or even being wiped over with it like one of mine, and the horse is going to be wearing a rug, just spray the rug all over before you put it on.

Re: Applying fly repellent

Although you can wipe Parsley all over and spray him until he's soaked..that is a great idea.

It's lonely in the saddle since the horse died.

Re: Applying fly repellent

You can spray Zara and wipe Sammy but Blair has a hissy fit just at the sight of the bottle, and last night he had midges (we're in Scotland) in his stable at tea time and they were driving him nuts.  He wears a light stable rug at night as it's still quite cold here at night, so I just sprayed it before I put it on and he was none the wiser!

Oh I wish I could do that with Captain - he gets bothered by flies and midges more than the others do, but you can't put a rug on him as he just trashes them straight away.

He will just about tolerate gel being put on by hand.

Avon skin so soft dry oil spray works wonders even on the horses which suffer sweet itch, also can be used by the rider, smells nice as well.
