Just been looking at my meagre book collection (used to have hundreds but lost the lot :( in house fire last year)

So, thought I'd start a recommended books thread!    Fact, Fiction, Childrens, Reference, Remembered from your childhood? Anything linked with horses.

I'll start with a  favourite;

 

CHOSEN BY A HORSE, by Susan Richards

 

True story about a rescued horse with the name Lay Me Down, and her rescuer Susan Richards, who needed rescuing herself.

A real tearjerking story and a must read for any horse lover.

 I had soooo many horsey books. But i think my favourites and the ones I went back to and read over and over again were the "Jinny of Finmory" ones. With the chestnut arab - Shanith.

I had loads as a kid and recenlty discovered www.janebadgerbooks.co.uk where you can find most of them and buy them too!  So I bought a couple that I just loved when I was about 10 (not yesterday).  They were A Horse From the Moor by Lesley King and Holiday Summner by Decie Merwin - ah the nostalgia.  I read them and then lent them to my friend's daughter who is about the age I was when I first read them.  I loved all the Jill books but wasn't too keen on the Jackie ones.

This'll make you chuckle - I was on the front cover of the set of Jill books (must have been in the late 70's)!  Here's a couple of them!  (me sitting on horse receiving trophy, and me in yellow top leading pony).  I don't know if you've heard of Duncan Inglis, but that's him on the pony I'm leading, and that's his dad giving me the trophy, lol).

Buy a Haynes manual.

It's kind of basic, but not too much so, and theres plenty of diagrams and photo's for the visually minded like myself. Also really well laid out, and a great book for anyone who is new, wants a memory refresh, or wants things in black and white. There are also a few obscure facts and tidbits lying around as well!

 i used to collect the heartland books, i had like every single one! 

 

I also read a couple of months back (found it when i moved) Blind Beauty by K M Peyton 

 

thought it might be a bit of a young book because iv had it ages, but its lovely, about a blind mare and a troubled girl, and then goes on about this blind mares foal and how this foal finds the girl.. racing based.. AMAZING!
