Best deep litter bedding for wet horse

Hi, I am looking at changing my mare from straw as she is very wet.  I dont have rubber mats and am wondering if it is better to fit them or to use a deep litter system. She is turned out through the day and in at night.  Ive heard that wee can just get under rubber mats and smell even worse...... has anyone any experience with Hemp/Flax/Safemix?  If so, can a box walker be kept on any of these??

What do you use?

Any suggestions welcomed.

i put a layer of shavings down and then loads of straw on top. straw actually soaks up quite well a deep litter though, often i just use straw, put a very thick layer down, then only do the wet once a week.

my horses are my medicine, without them im even more crazy!

Hemp is very absorbant so very good for a very wet bed. I have used it before and found it really good. It is best ued for deep litter as it holds the wet in a ball and you only need to take the wet out once a week. The only reason i stopped using it was the expense and i love straw beds, plus my horses aren't that wet.

Rubber flooring saves the amount of bedding required also it does save the horses legs as well, I use shavings at the moment but you can use most usual beddings. I found when I first had rubber instaled over 10 years ago it paid for itself within 6 months with the bedding it saved.
