 hi everyone,

 

i am regular on yourhorse, however I've had to create an anon account due to various reasons. anyway..

 

went to look at a yard today, for my two horses. They only have one stable at present which is fine as one needs to be out due to copd.. other needs to be in more often than not.. its nothing special to look at although they people are lovely, they're all friends and middle aged.. there isnt a school but thats fine, and its all off road hacking, all electric fenced fields (no probs) and automatic waters.. for £15 a week.. they also have said that if i wanted to feed haylage, its £6 a week.. which i think is super..

im paying almost £28 a week for a leaky stable, poor grazing and having to put up with middle age women trying to out do everyone, its pathetic.

only problem is I cant leave my tack there and there isnt much storage.. opinions?

It depends on how much of an issue it is to you not being able to leave your tack their and not having much storage.  Would that bother you longterm?  Not wanting to put a dampener on it, but everyone seems to start out lovely!  The main thing is your and your horses' welfare and happiness.

 thats so true, they always do... i think the main problem is storage wise, is that we have so much ! maybe i need to sell some of it. What really draws me to it, is the hacking is amazing (my work is just up the road, we do riding holidays) and everything is well thought of, plus it'd be saving me a small fortune in hay and livery bills

Maybe a good opportunity to get rid of stuff that you've been hanging onto.  Maybe just take stuff that you use regularly, get rid of stuff you don't need, and find a corner in your house for the other bits.  I've got two horses, admittedly one isn't ridden, but they really don't have much stuff at all.  Try and be rutheless .

You created an anon account... why..?

Personally, if the only downside was not being able to keep my tack at the yard, I would move in the morning.

Tack can be flung in a boot, left in a boot.. and gives you more incentive to clean it as it'll come home with you ;D Secondly, there is less chance of thieves getting to it. A riding yard not far from me had tack from 50 odd horses stolen a month ago.

Thats the horse's livelihoods.. working...

 

so yeah, I wouldn't be put off.

I genuinely think that £6 a week for haylage is amazing, i'm on like 3 sometimes 4 bales of hay a week at £4 a bale..

Well, if you move, people are gonna know you have an issue with the place anyways, be upfront about them... int he long run, it'll clear the air and make things better.. I learnt that ;D

And that is darn good for tha haylage, so long as it statys that price and doesn't magically rise once you get there

 I'd never leave my tack at a yard anyway, its a magnet for theives and the insurance companies 9 times out of 10 wont pay out because security doesn't meet their criteria

very true tommytank, we do where we are at the minute as its in the middle of nowhere, but i get where your coming from.

 I have to agree that tack can shoved into car boots easy peasy....rugs you could fashion some sort of rack in the stable or fling them over the sides of the stable (if you have sides ) or even the door...grooming kit can be left in you car boot or it doesnt take up much room if you have a little space shove it on top of feed bins or something which I presume you would have room for? apart from that what else do you need for them? :) use the opportunity to get rid of your junk :) good luck with your move you sound like you will be much happier where your moving to keep us up to date xx

 even though i live in the sticks i still bring my saddle and bridle into the house at night.  My rugs are all hanging in the barn and my other bits and bobs in the tack room, but just wouldn't risk leaving my saddle anywhere other than in the house
