starting to jump,any help available?

hi everyone.

so today i was gunna' start welcoming my 7yo mare to jumping,she has done previous jumping with her last owner but i want to see how she jumps,what shes like,her scope etc. so really i dont want to get on and pop a couple,any ideas how i can get a grip with how she jumps without actually riding?

 Free schooling! If you have an arena, make a jumping lane along the long side. Use your jump wings and poles to make a corridor. Start by putting some trotting poles and a small cross and if she is happy, play around putting the fence up snd maybe try a double or a bounce.

 

Only thing I'd say is although free schooling will let u see she can jump ... They can be a bit excitable when free schooling, far more than riding so if she does go a bit crazy, bucking and stuff it doesn't mean she will be like that when u are riding!

if it's only a little jump i lunge mine over it, on a nice long lunge line, you just have to figure out where to position the jump so you can do it on a large circle., or on a straight line, with you running along side.

my horses are my medicine, without them im even more crazy!

 thanks everyone,i tried all your tips and she was amazing so i jumoed on and went up to 4ft on our first jumping lesson together in a while!
