Do you think they know?

Do you think that our horses know when we are upset?

Was feeling very teary and down today and just wanted a good cuddle with my pony, had left them in because of the terrible weather and she was lovely and warm, was there was ages with my arms around her neck and my head on her shoulder.. she didnt move a muscle and just turned her head to nuzzle me.. such a sweetie,.

my mare usually doesnt do cuddles and fuss but she seemed to know..

anyone else had experiences like this ?

Re: Do you think they know?

find it is the same as with cats and dogs. when my bf of 3 years suddenly broke up with me i went to see the horses the next day, feeling terrible and after i fed them they just stood by me, where as normally they walk off straight away! the next couple of days they kept near me and giving me extra attention.

a few days ago i was feeling really down because of stress at work and gilly, my boy, actually followed me round the field, which he never normally does.

the same happens with the dog i live with, when i feel rubbish she wont leave my side :)

my horses are my medicine, without them im even more crazy!

I don't know to be honest, my horse never does anything like this!! I wish she would as it would tell me if we had a bond or not :(

When not feeling well or had an accident my one cat will not leave my side he is like my shadow, my other 2 horses especially Tonka knew when I was in trouble and actually protected me standing guard, my new horse we are getting to know each other and building up trust.

Yes they do - they'll be quite nuzzly and even Bracken, who isn't the cuddly sort will follow me about and be happy just to have me with her.

And the cats will want to be on my lap, or follow me round the house.

Clever animals -  and Rosebudd,  I hope you feel better soon :o)

i love your pony!! she is just beautiful :)

i think they know somehow - i dont know how they do but they just know :) its a comforting thought and makes you feel privaleged to have that sort of comfort avaliable - mind you it costs a bomb to 'run' such comfort - a galaxy bar . . . or two is much cheaper ;)

Yes I think they do, at least I know my TB does, she is very sensitive to my moods. Last year when my mum had to have our home bred put down, I went and sat in the field with Amber, she just come and stood by me for ages, almost watching over me.

On the other hand, I was pretty ill last summer and at one point had not been up to see the horses for 3 weeks (I hasten to add my hubby was looking after them), and Amber would not come near me, even though I had polos, it was like she had the hump with me for not going to see her and took a couple of days for her to 'forgive' me!

Re: Do you think they know?

After my nana died in Janurary I went up to see Woody and usually he isn't a cuddly horse. Stood for two hours and let me sob into his shoulder aha! I think they definitely know, my dog knew fine well (lost him to old age in Nov), if i'd had a bad day he'd sit on my feet while I was on the settee and put his head in mylap and just sit there with me! My cat is a wee dick though, he just comes to you when he wants love haha.
