the swallows are back at the stables - so is it summer ??

While we were doing the horses this evening we saw two swallows swooping about above the field.

We get 2 pairs every year who nest in the stables roof, and this is the first time we've seen any this year.

So nice to see them back, but they must be b****y freezing, poor things.

Hope to see the other pair soon, then we've got 2 or 3 lots of babies to each pair to look forward to - and the nice thing is they do eat some of the flies :o)

we have a pair of great tits that nest in our post box, last year they mustered up a nest really quickly, this year its taking them an age to build it.  They line the box with moss then top it with pony hair, it must be really cosy in there.  We put a sign out so the post man doesn't post the post in there.

Had to have a giggle at that - so where does your postman put your post ?

And Richard, I do hope the weather gets a LOT warmer for you - when you're over a certain age (I'm not saying what that age is) camping in freezing cold wet weather is distinctly unappealing.

But if you go, I hope everything goes well :o)

 lol char

our post box is built on to the back of the door of the boiler room in the B&B so they have instructions to open the boiler room door and pop the post on the floor in there 3

Still on the look-out for our swallows.  We have three stables, each with a nest in it.  Had them for quite a few years now.  They often have several litters or whatever you call it!  Last year when it was really dry, I put out the hose in the field at the entrance to the yard where it was earthy looking, and the swallows zoomed in and made their mud balls to carry on making their nests, it was so cute!

Friday 27th April 2012 mid-afternoon - our swallows are back!!  So happy

Quite alot of them, all flying around, swooping the ground, popping into the stables and filling the air with their song.  Quite a hub of acitivity.  They sound so happy too.  It's like they're all having a chat and comparing notes about their journey from South Africa!  It was quite moving actually
