Hi everyone, as many of you know we have a rising 5 year old TBX mare called Tilly. She has been having weekly schooling sessions with an experienced rider and we've been so glad of the help. A friend of ours has recently been riding her twice per week and is also willing to help with her schooling, problem is she thinks that Tilly has been doing far too much with the other lady and is now fitter than we can handle ! i will admit that she does have her trotting for quite some time but surely one schooling session per week should'nt get her that fit, should it !!
I've noticed when hacking Tilly out that she does a hop up into trot and pulls, it's almost as if she's trying to launch herself forward with gusto !! I have to resort to pulling in order to regain control and i really don't want to do that, she does calm down slightly and i can sometimes get a sane trot but tbh she's getting stronger and i'm wondering if this is just natural for her age and breed because her muscles have developed and she is maturing. The last thing that i want is for me to lose my confidence as I'm not a brave rider, she has'nt taken off with anyone YET and she's good in traffic, non-spooky and will halt when asked but she is defo getting away from me and i'm wondering why.
Tilly is very settled with us and has daily turnout and is stabled at night ( which she loves ! ) We have'nt changed her feed , she has calmer chaff with a small amount of non heating conditioning cubes twice per day. she is good to handle and stands like a dream to be tacked up and groomed. I don't believe that she's stressed in any way. We can't lunge her before hacking out as we have no arena or spare paddock. I would welcome any thoughts or suggestions, thanks guys XX
