Re: yard nightmare

I have just been accused of telling everyone on the yard it is a bad yard, my answer was no this I had not said but had said watch what you say or do as you can never do right, then called a lier, saying I was rubbishing the yard this I don't have to do as she is doing a good job all by herself. She is trying to save face as when a volunteer officer with the BHS leaves everyone likely to take notice also she wonders if I will put a good word in for her with the Welfare Dept as I have witnessed a horse being hit in the face twice and mine been hit on the side with a lead rope and my horse had done nothing, but the next day my horse tried to double barrel the YO and missed unfortunately hurting herself on the gate. I have been picked up on so many things its silly in itself, and unfortunately could not prove if the pile of poo belonged to my horse, so wanted cocktail sticks with little flags so I could mark my horses poo taking the mick did not help, then learnt I was leaving and told to give a weeks notice but tuff she has already been paid 2 weeks in advance anyway. The new place will have 2 horses including mine in 5 acres plus a indoor riding school coming on line, all that grass and not enough time to eat it. The other mare a chestnut loves me and after I gave her a good rub went so tired could hardly stand with that daft look.

ooooooo dont get me started on yard politics!!! all is quiet now...then again i only go to make feeds as ive wintered my boys out but kept my stabe for storage but last year was a nnightmare, i had to go up at stiupid hours with my friend so we dint see anyone as they hurled abuse at us, we had the barn muck swept infront of my stable and the YO wouldnt acceptt it even though he could see it =/ my horse im pretty sure was bein given something that made his poos vary from dry n normal to cow patts in 30mins of them leaving n me arriving he had been hit in the face coz he dared put his face over the door when another horse was lead past. the fencing is atrocious ony 2 horses on the yard havent broken through n ended up on the main road and he put rent up for maintenace....no maintenace been done but he got a new car, fields are so over stocked its untrue, about 6 horses on 2acres for at least 3month before he changes them to another 3 acre paddock. still notice bein given 2moro hes loosing 11 horses in a month

------ End Quote -----hi being an older person and coming back into horses for my daughter , i have witnessed terrible things , like feeding other peoples horses , giving horses bute , feeding laminetics , violence , all without owners knowledge or consent , which are surely dangerous and cruel acts if not illegal , i was once on a yard on full livery , yo decided to fund his earnings on a portfolio to become a model , and one of my ponys was bedded on concrete as he had no money for shavings , and you were not allowed to supply your own , needless to say i went straight out and bought shavings for my ponys bed . hes was annoyed but coudnt say a thing .he also lost a lot of liveries and hasnt got the yard anymore.

Re: yard nightmare

Also as an older person, and also having kept my horse at home till recently for 22 years, and due to circumstances with my new horse  is at a DIY yard which I have known for a number of tears but only in the capacity of getting my hay from there. Wish now never seen the place the YO is a night mare having ago at everyone interferring all the time and making nasty comments, especially when I had enough and was making a dececion if to leave and was unwise to say I was thinking of leaving to a lady who has the horse next door to mine so twits then had it in the neck from the yard owner which had now made my mind up for me, have witnessed horses being ill treated by the YO, now she is saying I have been telling everyone what a rotton yard she has, but I don't have to she is doing a good job herself. I was taught to ride 45 years ago by a Lt. Col. ex-Indian Army Cavalry so know how a yard should be run and was a few years ago asked if I would be a Yard Manager of a very large Full Livery Stables with over 30 horses and at least 6 staff it was a  BHS Reg yard, to me the job has to be done right or don't bother, idots need not apply or anyone who wants to be idle all pull together, The council used to licence yards I am going to find out if they still do, Also this YO is now try to make me out a lier trying to rubbish my reputation as an Volunteer Officer with the BHS, but I will say things when behavior does not meet my expectations with the treatmnet of horses which includes hitting horses in the face which I have witnessed by thr YO and hitting mine for getting too close to her hitting her with a lead rope and threatening to shoot my horse in the face if anything happens like that she will have a very nasty accident and thats a promise. All the mares she hates with a passion and most will try to double barrel her including mine, all you get she has been around horses for years but if I was her I would give up my day job, as if managed correctly owners as well as the horses it could be a fantastic yard, but most people leave after 3 months, I was told I have been there longer than most. Tells me how to look after my horse which don't appreciate saying the 7 weeks I have my horse seen by the farrier is too soon and should be longer and have years and my horse has the smallest feet she has seen on a horse of her size, and I should use hers, the latest which I am checking on as I don't know but think is wrong as she wants to do the horses teeth and will not allow a dentist on her yard, now I would have thought this was wrong as they should be qualified. No trainers allowed on the yard only YO or son to do this. Told I must give a weeks notice but she already has a weeks rent in hand above this week so tuff. Makes you frightened to go to the yard as it does my ulcer, panic attacks no good and unfortunately this will make me lash out in defence, told off for going too early my normal time, told off for not picking poo up horse did on yard the evening before which I think was not hers as stops to do and she had not, hay in front of stable ok she is a horse and makes a mess, taking too much of the feed room but thats where all my stuff has to be as never given key to dry store, the place leaks like a sieve, the feed room and the stable, all rings where removed so had to supply own and told about hook into a main beam as if my horse pulled on it would bring down the whole block if this was the case horse should not be in those stables. YO now bringing her husband into it saying she thought I was not like I am and we were friends and has known me for years if I was a friend how does she treat others who are not needless to say voting with my feet and if she wants to make anything of it watch the press.

Re: yard nightmare

I have never had trouble with the horses or ponies on the yards I have been on its always been their owners or Yard owner, Its not to say all livery yards are like this but I did keep a horse on a competition yard and I am ever going to keep a horse on livery like that again... It was horrible, everyone watching each other, yard owner was completely unorganised with everything from worming, to hay/bedding deliveries, remembering if you had paid or not... I made two really good friends there but the rest werent nice at all, they all wanted to be better than each other and they thought to do that they had to put everyone else down including their horses :-(

Re: yard nightmare

If I ever win the lottery I will open my own yard and make sure to run it as it really should be and anyone causing trouble I hope they will be happy on their new yard, the problem is the more anyone tries to be a control freak the more they actually lose control this I learnt over the years with my job and also with the group I run. Some people seem to go through life without actually learning everyone can still learn until the day they leave this earth, but somepeople think they know all there is to know, you must feel sorry for them.

I hate my Yard, I am paying £381.89 a month, For 2 on DIY. The straw and hay is included BUT the quality is awful! the straw is very dusty and a horrible colour, last week I found a shot gun cartridge in my gelding's bed!! The hay is either rank and dusty and has to be soaked for ages as Buzz suffer's from dust allergies OR lovely and green/fresh but NONE of the 45 horses on site will eat it! The fields are over crowded and have bugger all grass in them as they only get rested for a week at a time, the whole yard is infested with rats and as of yesterday the barn is shut due to a 'Lesser Spotted Ousleum Bird' nesting in it, (google them, no such frigging thing!!) The real reason is the barn has major structural damage whch should have been sorted last summer, But NO the farmer built and new barn FOR HIS TRACTORS instead!! The school surface is shit, Its very dusty and I cannot ride my lad out there, the farmer refuses to sprinkle it.

I have found a new yard, Winnie and baby can go on Grass Livery, Buzz can go in BRAND NEW just built stable with rubber matting floors, better turn out, FAR BETTER facilities, beautiful 30x60m school with new Martin Collins surface and £60 a week, but as its the last stale they need and £100 deposit, totally cool with me BUT my money doesn't some in till the 17th so I cannot give deposit immediatley and therefore I WON'T be moving GUTTED is not the word :-(

With it being that bad I'd be asking the bank to temporarily increase my overdraft facility

Yes, I would. Or ask them if you can post date the cheque?

i agree with you i left a yard where the 20 year old thought he was god .my final words to him were "an intelligent man is one whom can reconise the true extent of their ignorance "  it didnt go down well haha
