i cant stop thinking N E G A T I V E.

crying writing this literally.

today must of been the worst day for a long time with poser, he actually put someone in hospital. I know you must be thinking christ why let someone ride him or what a stuipid horse but you cant help but love them even if they are complete twits. This lady who rode him is very experienced with TB's and she actually had him before i did looking after him for his old owners. She had him for a year. she knows him inside out. So since hes been going mental not letting me lunge him without rearing, bucking and kicking out and closing in on me she offered to help and i took her up on it. She lead him around up and down the lane for a decent 15/20 mins and first 10 mins he was trotting, and excitable but he started to calm down so she decided to get on him (completely her choice, like i said i dont want anyone telling me it was a stupid idea, he was perfectly calm when she decided this) he was foot perfect walking away from home, as soon as we turned home he bucked and reared and got her off and cut her eyebrow up..it was a deep cut to the skull. We warned her, and she was perfectly happy to get on him, and again, was her choice.

This horse is an absolute nightmare, i got him when he was 5 but was turning 6 about 6 weeks after we got him, ive had him a year and hes nearly 7. He was a perfect horse that schooled in an outline, jumped you name it. But now hes flipped and i dont know what to do.

People say lunge him, but he keeps rearing, bucking, closing in on me and you say push him forward, i try. Im really loosing all hope and my confidence has hit rock bottom, i really am not knowing how much more i can take. I love him, hes my baby, always will be. But how can i think positive when i cant see any light at the end of the tunnel? He has so much potential to be a british event horse and anything i want him to be but is this the right thing to do..to keep him and carry on trying?

Please help with any tips on how to lunge him and to get his naughty habbits out his head, earn respect, be able to have a normal horse again.

* HAS HAD HIS BACK DONE AND GOT A FITTED SADDLE, HAD HIS TEETH FILED, AND HAD HIS FEET TRIMMED.

You need a fresh pair of eyes on him, someone who is not emotionally attached to the horse and can give you unbiased advice and maybe give you some hope and reinspire you.

I second this. Do you have any experienced/brave friends who would give you a hand? You could watch knowing that they will not 'beat' your horse but being this dangerous is simply not acceptable.

It's lonely in the saddle since the horse died.

He is royally taking the piss. When my tb is feeling fresh and i try to lunge him and he goes mad i make him stop myself, and anytime i ask him to go forward and he starts going mad i pull him back in and do tis a million times until he WALKS on, it takes a lot of time yes and he will be hard to stop at the time but

anything is worth a try.

when he eventually listens in lunge you can start with tack again and lunge then a dummy rider. you basically need to rebreak him.

Also he seems like a horse that needs a LOT of activity and excersize. are you really giving him that?

thats why i think living out is the best option, as they get less wound up and use energy living out. they need to learn to relax!

also, couldnt see in the pics, do you use side reigns? you can make them nice and tight to try and hold him in a bit so he can rear as easily

my horses are my medicine, without them im even more crazy!

Hes kept out 24/7, but like i said hes had an injery whick revolved him having 2-6 months off so thats why he hasnt been active so no he doesnt need another home or someone better than me cause im not gunna ride or lunge him when hes got an injery thats why he has had time off to recover and is now coming back into work.

yes i do use side reigns sometimes.

well the best advice i can give is take a deep breath and try to thin POSSITIVE!!!! give him a nice groom, and relax and enjoy each others company, because you are feeling negative and tense he will feel that way to. try more ground work and gradually build up to lunging in walk, with halt transitions to get him listening. i wish you all the best :) he looks gorgeous and im sure in time and with the hard work you are clearly willing to put in, things will improve :D think POSSITIVE!

one other thought (sorry i have posted loads on this thread!) even though he is recovered from his injury and in no pain, it may have caused him to lose his confidence which is why he is freaking out. just a possibility, as my friends horse hurt his leg (tendon i think) and he had to be on box rest and out of work for a while, then even when recoverd, if he brushed his leg against anything, or slipped on uneven ground out on a hack he would freak and jump up in worry- even though he was 100% sound and no pain- just because of the memory of the injury, which made him feel vulnerable (as they are flight animals and he was as such less able to get away when he had a bad leg)

my horses are my medicine, without them im even more crazy!

pip im sorry but puttin on reins and tightening them is bad advice, that should never be done ever, it will ruin his neck and back or he could dlip over and get stuck and suffocate himself. side reins are only to help the horse work in a lower head carriage, not to hold the head in at all.

There's a girl on here sometimes who had similar problems with her thoroughbred and in the end it was gastric ulcers that he had.  If you're sure that it isn't this and he's definitely not in pain and it is all behavioural, then he is being dangerous and it needs stopping now.  I had a problem with Joe once with bucking and I got him a buckstop from www.stopthathorse.com, I only had to lunge him in it twice and once he realised he couldn't assume the postition he gave in and I never needed to use it again.  I believe they also do a rearstop.  I know that many are not fans of gadgets, myself included, but Joe was getting dangerous just because he knew he could, and we had tried everything else including sending him away for schooling - he did not buck once when he was away being schooled but was saving it up for when he came home, lol!
