Feeling out of place..!

 Hi guys,

Since i have started loaning a horse at a new yard, (I have only been there for about a month)! I have found out that everybody there is at least 19 and older! I wasn't surprised but I am finding it quite hard to talk to them because at my riding school, most of the girls were my age (13) up to about 15 so I felt like I had more in common with them. At the new yard, I kind of feel a bit out of place with such knowledgable people there and the other girls were off in their cars driving to horse shops etc ! By all means they are really nice, but I feel like I have to watch what I say in case I sound chopsy because I am so much younger than them. I just wish I was their age !! :(

Sorry rant over now haha. Just wondering your thoughts on whether age matters in my situation and if anybody was the baby of their yard lol xx

. And as for zooming off in cars, as someone that I worked with once told me, you're either a rich pedestrian or a poor car owner.

Haha !! and if you're a horse / pony owner, then you're DEFINITELY poor

But seriously, it won't be that long until you're their age and zooming off in your car, and maybe some 13 year old will join the yard and look a bit lost and lonely - you'll know what they feel like and be able to help them settle in happily :o)

At my last yard I actually preferred our younger riders, I regularly rode out with a 15 year old and we are still in touch, she comes over and puts my jumps up for me...I'm 42 lol :)

Relax you have something in common straight away and am sure you will be fine.

Re: Feeling out of place..!

I was really young at a yard where I used to work (I was 17 and pretty much everyine else was much older than me, like in their 30s + which was just the kind of customer that yard attracted I guess ...) but I just smiled spoke to everyone and didn't try to pretend I was something I'm not or put on an act. Like others have said just be yourself and relax and enjoy your horse, the rest will all come together because you already do have something in common with these girls, your horses !!! Give it more time and don't be shy of these people, they may be more knowledgable but if you ask most people are happy to help (I've found) and you may end up being at an advantage at this new yard by having an opportunity to learn.

Have fun !!!
