As I mentioned in a previous post we have recently lunged Tilly in a Pessoa with encouraging results it has really helped her to stretch long and low giving her something to work into, it also helps with her balance and softens her to the inside a bit more.

I'm a bit old school lol I only use side reins on my girl when I lunge. Have used lots of different gadgets etc on other horses though :) some of them are so expensive its crazy!

My treeless saddle! its fab very very comfey which is a good job as im in the saddle for a number of hours in one go. PLUS it fits ALL my Arabs its nice and light for them specially as they are youngsters or not long been backed.

I dont use the correct pads but this is due to my choice i personally find them a waist of money i just use a Poly Pad and have done since 1999 when i got my very first treeless saddle i have got a correct pad but when your competing in the mileage that i do they just hold the sweet AND it works out soooo expensive when you need 4 of them when your doing big rides if i didnt change them at every vet gate then my horses would get sore back.

I have just brought a GP style treeless saddle for Dressage again very comfy. Love them.

I'm a massive Pessoa fan too...in fact, so much so, that I think I'd make their ideal Sales Rep! lol

I use it on all three of mine and it's particulary useful for Luna, who is sway backed as it is slowly strengthening her back. In fact, the physio said the difference in her back since using it is amazing! Dulcie also goes well in it. When ridden, she has a tendency to lean rather heavily on your hands and pessoa work has helped teach her to step under and sit on her bum more!

I also swear by my Dually halter. I don't know how people manage without them. I probably only use it once or twice a year but it is so useful if you have one that can be a bit pushy/bargy (Luna! lol) and for ones that are reluctant loaders.

My Equi-Ami lunging aid - works similarly to the Pessoa but as a 'loop' so the horse can't lean on it at all :D Having a very 'leany' horse this works wonders for us :)

Interesting about the Dually halter Sarah, we taught Tilly to load using a pressure halter, then i progressed to just wrapping the rope of her headcollar around her nose. The other day I thought that i would try loading her with normal headcollar and leadrope ( no pressure across her nose ) she walked straight on like a dream, I'm hoping that we won't need to use it again as she's really relaxed about the trailer now.

Can I be completely nosey and ask what treeless that is? I have been using a Libra Trec II but am not keen on it, I feel safer bareback!

Oh and to answer the original post, I love my australian ring bridle (stockmans style) as its unbelievably soft leather and doesn't put lots of pressure on Apollo's poll like some bridles do. Its designed to spread the pressure and avoid the nuchal ligaments. You also can't attach a nose band which I think shows off his face ;-)

For my own bit of kit I love my bum-bag! So 80's I know but it is so handy. I keep my phone, gate key, some money and hoof pick in it plus a bit of bailer twine incase of emergency tie-ups!

favourite piece of tack or equipment.

It has to a pair of leather driving reins.

My 15yr old gypsy cob has spent most of his life in a riding school, to which he has taught himself every trick in the book. We have now gone back to basics and going well withought having to be firm as some might say !!  Now i give him the choice hard way or easy way, often he thinks about it and takes the easy way :)   long reining has taught him he can go out alone, given me loads of confidence and also he is now starting to respect me and not push me around like he has learnt to do with other in the past. Everyone should do it however old their horse is, lots of fun and something different for the horse too.
