Share your money saving tips here !!

After reading Aimeee's post MoneyMoneyMoney i thought that it would be a good idea to share our money saving tips . . . .

Bank statements. This one sounds obvious but how often do you actually sit down and go through your bank statements thoroughly ? We all lead such busy lives and many direct debits seem to creep up without us hardly noticing. We have saved nearly £60.00 per month by cancelling our Sky subscription and changing to freeview we realised that we only ever watched about 4 or 5 channels on Sky !! Tbh we don't even miss it. You can also save alot of money by shopping around for more competative car insurance. We also managed to cancel two small direct debits that we actually did'nt need anymore. Great stuff !!

Pay £20 for rugs to be reproofed/repaired at Countrywide, or do it yourself, instead of buying a new rug of two each Winter!

Buy rugs in sales but only if you really need them, i've just ordered Sky a turnout rug for next winter. She will need it as she will be clipped out and she doesn't have a rug to her name yet.

I keep my horses barefoot so it is cheaper. I only have to have their feet trimmed every 8 weeks insead of shoes every 6 weeks.

Repair your own rugs and wash and reproof them yourself, it saves loads of money and it only takes an hour or so to scrub a turnout rug and reproof it.

Only feed what the actually needs instead of feeding mixes etc stick to the basics. My horses only get fast fibre and speedi beet if they need some more weight on.

Non horsey, shop around for car insurance, i saved over £100 this year by doing this.

Food shopping write a list and stick to it, don't go shopping if you are hungry!!!

I wanted some rubber reins and bought some at a rip off price at gjw titmuss but then found an old pair at the stables so use them now. Also wanted some stirrups bought some nice ones cheaply from this saddlery I think they're new, or just 2nd hand and never used

Yeah, also get some 2nd hand stuff. For example if you needed a saddle, see if someone has one you can borrow. Spring's saddle is borrowed from a friend :)

Sorry folks could not help myself on this one a good money saving tip is to not have a horse, a wife and kids, the kids should all come with a health warning to your wallet, will not say much about the wife but lately there was a wallet warning as new attire for sons wedding in July this year.

agree with you kevin -  in my case its a hubby and 2 grown up kids  - amazing how many times they are short of money from not having gone to the bank in time, so the bank of mum/wife comes into being.  I save money by buying quite a few household items from Poundland, brand names too. or going round charity shops, got many a designer top/trousers  even had piquer jods, childs brand new body protector  and a show jacket from them, all for less than a £5.

Re: Share your money saving tips here !!

Further to my comments at one time when my son was a student thought I had this magical tree that grew £20 notes behind the stable, and nearly but not quite Mrs Bucket in keeping up appearances "how much" no wonder I am getting like Victor Meldrew. Now he is very much better and does put his hand in his pocket when he takes us out to lunch as when he did I usually ended up paying, and if giving money for anything don't, pay for it  just when you are shown what they want or else the money just disappears and if they ask for money when you are helping them but they are doing a job for you pay them after they do it not before as I am owed a weeks mucking out when I broke my ankle ended up with a bin liner round my plaster. My son is getting married in July so I wish him all the best and if any children at least twins he! he!. But as many of us on here my parents never had much money and what stopped me going to Uni was the fees as could not get a grant as been to work now you can.

So glad to find someone else who does this, Oldmare !! I said on Aimees Money Money Money post I'd got a brand new Puffa jacket, with labels still on for £7, and a wheelbarrow for £10, that came complete with a spare tyre....
