Yeah we used to use plastic milk crates, basically anything we could get our hands on - water containers, barrells, hay/straw bales. Anything!!! We also used to go into the woods and pull out logs to use.  They were the good old days.

They used to jump the tables and benches in Sutton Park, but logs are good as are going over ditches, then a sunken ditch with a pole across but this can prove interesting as those of us with Cobs found out as they went from flat out gallop to emergency stop by sitting on their bum and sliding with front legs locked, the horse has a green stain on their bum, the ditch suddenly is quite alot wider than it used to be and the rider nearly falls off due to laughing that much tears rolling down face feeling exhausted.

Re: Need help homemade jumps

I know you are saying you can't buy them really, but I got really cheap jumps off ebay a few years back and got them as an xmas present (I haven't actually used them as my old pony was arthritic and we stopped jumping her but plan to this year) in really good condition, about 5 jumps 10 or so poles and fillers. they were 2nd hand and we got them delivered for free

Hay/straw bales are excellent and can be used as fillers too!  Basic stands are quite easy to make if you have wood at home!

Straw bales, barrels, wooden paletes make great fillers when painted. Cement blocks stacked ontop of each other. Just use what you have and be creative. My dad made a set of caveleties out of the poles you put in windbreakers to keep them up. He made crosses out of the and got extra wood to make bases the they were strong enough to hold up heavy poles.

It's ok if you give up as long as you come back later to try again.
