Oppinions please...

A woman I know of contacted me last week asking me If knew of anyone who would be interested in buying her mare... her horse is a 15hh dun quarter horse mare, but there is more too it...
She bought this mare only 2 months ago and spent a lot of money on buying her and bringing her over from the USA. She said that when her mare arrived she was lovely, really quiet and settled in happily for the first couple of days... after the 4th day of her being in her new home, the mare completely changed... her owner thinks that she may have been quite heavily sedated for the journey....and it took a couple of days to wear off
Her new owner put her out the field and hasn't been able to catch her since!! everytime she walks up to her she bolts off, she doesn't come too a bucket of feed or hay... she says that he doesn't want nothing more to do with her and wants to sell her... but if someone is coming to view a expensive and well bred quarter horse surely they want to see her and handle her not stand in a field and hope to see her... she has asked me If I had any idea on what sort of price she should ask for her? oppinions please?
Her details are 15hh, purebred quarter horse mare, 5 year old, dun with small white star, suppose to be broken in to western riding and been used on the farm in the USA... she paid $5000 for her... any ideas on what price? and tips for catching her? xx

Well I agree with you saying anybody wanting to buy it would like to handle it. It sounds like it hasn't done anything at all and probably not broken in or atleast not properly.

Is it possible to put her in a smaller field? Or electrice tape it smaller every second day until the horse doesn't have very far to run away from you. Then just spend time in the field every day until the horse accepts you and you are able to get him into a stable with minimum struggle. (This worked with my uncles really wild pony but you do need time to do this) Once in the stable get him used to you again and being around her and being groomed.(a good way to get her used to any new equipment is just leaving it in the stable with her over night(( as loong as it is safe to do so)) in most cases she will not mind it anymorre)  It will take a lot of time though. But if she wants her money back and the horse not to end up in a factory its worth it.

It's ok if you give up as long as you come back later to try again.

I'd being advising the owner to get some assistance in just achieving the basics with this horse.  Once she sees an improvement she may not want to sell, but if she does want to sell then at least she can sell it as handleable!

Try section the field off. Try taking any horses she can see away from her.

Now this may sound silly but chase her, make her run round the field til she's tired and try do join up (monty roberts technique) in the field

She will definitely need to be handleable if anyone wants to look at her. I was offered a pony for free if i could catch her, the owner had got fed up of not being able to get near her. So based on that then she isn't worth anything until she can be caught and handled.
