Jen-jen's going to Leahurst tomorrow.

This is one of those self pitying posts. My App is having eyesight issues and my vet has referred me to Leahurst, we've been before and I have great faith, so no worries there, just one of those what ifs. When you book the horse into the clinic you sign an agreement which states that if the vets think it is in the best interests of the hgorse that you agree to euthanasia.

Well it goes without saying that i will sign the agreement, but now I worry about other things, you know like if they were to tell me that that is what they think is best for Jen how i'm going to get her back into the horsebox and heading for home before someone notices we've gone! I know that this is ridiculous but I'd never let her be PTS without a second or even third opinion whilst she is looking so healthy and feeling so well.  I'm obv just a lot more wound up than i thought...Aaaargh!

Please say a little prayer for us tomorrow, to which ever Gods or spirits you may have faith in, its at times like these that one wishes for a little faith oneself!

Hi Vicky, wishing you the very best of luck for tomorrow, I'll be thinking of you and Jen-Jen. I don't really understand the agreement that you have to sign as surely this would only come in if the circumstances were very severe. Maybe you could discuss the possible outcomes with the vet first just to put your mind at rest. I hope so much that all goes well for you both, take care and keep us updated soon, Lyn XX

Re: Jen-jen's going to Leahurst tomorrow.

Well we've just got back and she's fine, she's got dry eyes, which is what i first had thought might be the problem 6 months ago when i asked my vet to examine her, they are just irritating her at present and he thinks the euvitis (sp) was just a coincidence, though i'd say if you have  dry eyes and  say if you got a bit of grass in them it would start the whole irritation response off. So 6 months later, I'd say to my vet i was right can i have a refund, no chance!! I had even asked my vet if he thought it a good idea to use a daily topical saline solution like Viscotears or celluvisc to make any difference and he said no. Guess what Leahurst vet says use Viscotears....aargh and they were cheaper than my vet practice for an exam!

All very frustrating but the good news is its now sorted!

The bad news is that he wants another 50kg off her, I pointed out that since the EMS diagnosis that she is now at her lowest weight 584 and that i was 23 stone 6 i would be out of her 30% range at 534, I was then given a long educational lecture (in a lovely way) and i came away knowing she must lose more weight and that she can carry me easily at any weight he said i only had to worry if i was a 35 stone wrestler and i was to leap on her from a great height! When we went through what we were feeding her at present, and i have to admit to allowing her rations to creep up, i explained that at the weekend when i'd given her a thorough grooming that I'd increased her feed adding hoof kind because i thought she might be a welfare case and the lovely vet just smiled and didn't laugh at me at all! My OH is unbearable however, saying i told you they were looking more like horses and less like barrage balloons, my reply to this at the time had been no if we had an RSPCA inspection they would probably want to monitor them to make sure they didn't lose anymore weight! A 45 minute car journey can seem unbearably long when your OH keeps snorting "RSPCA cases!" "I'm never going to believe you about anything again!"
