Boooo!

.. So has anyone on here got the knack?

It's lonely in the saddle since the horse died.

Re: Can anyone on here get on bareback?

Sometimes. I am better when I know nobody is looking but last year at pony camp was so stiff after the week that my frined had to give me a leg up on to Brandy the pony I was riding who is a whole 13 hands! Normally I am pretty good at it but if Im tired or stiff it is not pretty at all.

It's ok if you give up as long as you come back later to try again.

I have absolutely no spring so can't even get on my 14.3 cob from the ground with a saddle!  I always use a mounting block/gate/verge/bridge.

I often ride my 17.2 shire bareback but have to get on from something as tall as him!  I started riding him bareback most of the time last summer and it improved my riding so much.  Can only walk at the moment as his trot's so bouncy.  Working on being able to sit it out though!  He has a fantastic canter - like sitting in a rocking chair!

Piece of cake - just lend me a minature shetland pony to demonstrate!!!!!

Seriously, 20 years ago if I had a small wall I could get on to my 16.1hh dutch warmblood easily - last time I tried it was my 16hh british warmblood and it was not a pretty sight but I did manage it wth the aid of a mounting block. I think I have shrunk though as I am now only 5' 2 and a half inches (the half is very important!!!!) or maybe the mares have all grown

I used to be able to jump onto my 15.1hh with ease bareback but now i struggle to get on with a saddle . It was along time ago though and i am no where near a springy now, the legs grown if i even think about it

 I keep trying.

I had my 2nd fall this week trying to get on bareback, I slipped off the mounting stool as Spring stepped forwards and fell underneath her. Thank god she didn't move!!
