  Hi Guys,  

Bonos always bucking , and he bucks especially when you whip him on the butt with a dressage whip, he hates them and i dont know why! please tell me if you have any advice as to how to stop him, or why he does it!

He must have been beaten up some time with a whip as this was the case with Tonka as never ever could you carry a whip of any kind but he never needed one in the 21 years I had him, a parachute perhaps but not a whip.

How to stop him bucking? Don't use the whip on him.  Why does he buck?  Coz he doesn't like it!

Have you had all the checks done? If not then that is the first thing to do as he might be in pain. If you have when did you get them done as things might have gone wrong since you had them done. I wouldn't use a whip if it makes him buck. You will need to ride him forward when you feel him tense up ready to buck.

A dressage whip is not really designed to be used to hit the horse with, it's designed for a light tap behind the leg, never on the bum. A dressage whip should be used subtley as a precise aid, not to hit !!! They were known as cutting whips because you can literally cut the horse with it if you whack. So don't do it and he won't buck, simple as that !!!

If he bucks when you use a whip, he's not understanding the reason behind the whip.

Whip = more impulsion, whether it be a dressage whip or a jumpers crop.

Whacking your horse's arse is not going to make him forward, it'll just make him sour.

Next time you use it, a slight tap on his bum, your hands forward and don't restrict his head. He will more than likely buck for the first few times, but once he realises this is forwards, not a pull in the mouth and a spank, it'll be fine.

On a second note, when training your horse,
1- ask with leg and seat aid
2- if this is ignored, repeat leg aid with small tap of whip
3- if that is ignored, THEN he gets a firmer tap with it... he'll soon learn to go the first time you ask.

 Thanks  , i wont whip him often, only when he doesnt listen to my leg. my cousin always tells me to make him scared of the whip so he speeds up at my leg! :)

Then your cousin needs whipping for even suggesting it, why would she want to make a horse scared of a whip !!!!!! The dressage whp is to back up the leg not give them a good smack with.
