Working Hunter Question?

I recently got a new horse on loan and she's very good at working hunter, and would like to enter her in some competitions, but there's lots of different types and classes and I'm confused at how to enter.

Info:

Mare

Sec. D

England

14

Handler/Rider age- 13

Horse height: between 14 and 15 hh

I want to do the kind of working hunter wher you do a round of ridden showing then a course of small rustic natural jumps.

Thanks:)

Re: Working Hunter Question?

Don;t know about anywhere else but in the shows around my way the class you're describing you want to do would definitely be a working hunter - (under 14.2 pony over 14.2 horse)

I've only entered one local show in a showing class but prior to that I got hold of the schedule (have a look in your local tack shop and at online equestrian magazines (- in our area Pegasus and Wealden ad) and then read the description carefully for each class & call the secretary if you're not sure.  At the one I did we entered In-hand veteran and a "Ring Experience" class which was a ridden class which was great as the idea was that it was first time for horse and/or rider to give you an idea of what you needed to do.  Having decided what you want to enter, if you don't know what to wear or how to turn out the horse then you can ask on places like here and people will give you advice - although it can be contradictory!  I decided personally that, as I didn't know whether we would both like it and whether she would be of interest to the judges, I would NOT over trim.  I left her whiskers as she's grass kept but I did trim her (very slight) feathers and cut her tail nearer to showing length than the length it was (top of heels!)  At the level of show I went to that was absolutely fine (we won!) ;o)

Re: Working Hunter Question?

Most shows hold a variety of working hunter classes. These are sometimes split as 14.2hh and under and then 14.3 and over....or sometimes novice, intermediate etc....check with your local show, it will be on their schedule.

As yours a Welsh D (I think that's what you mean above) you could also do the M&M Working Hunter, which would be easier for you as you don't need to plait. Turnout would be the same for any other M&M class
