2012: First Hack

Can't quite believe it and for once Friday 13th was not an unlucky day. I actually went hacking for the first time since last Nov when I had that awful hack. I was up back home in the Peak District area for the weekend and didn't want to miss riding for a week so thought I'd return to Ladybooth Equestrian Centre at Edale where I hacked out in Sept last year. I managed to book a hack without paying attention to the date (not that I'm supersititious or anything).

Got there and I had Pie again who I'd had last Sept, plus the same hack leader, Laura. She remembered me and we had a lovely chat whilst out. Laura took me up across Nether Moor to near to the start of Jaggers Clough. I coped with the roads, low slung tree branches, dirt tracks, water (for the first time) and Pie wanting to munch every piece of grass that he saw that he could get his gnashers round and also coped with my fear of heights as well. We hit rising trot across Nether Moor and the ground was fab, such a bounce from it. The weather was just beautiful, it was a lovely winter's day with a nip in the air and the scenery in that part of the world was just stunning with the blue skies and sunshine. Its the first time I've ridden for an hour as well since my previous hack. I coped with it all, even Pie spooking slightly when we rode back. I was a bit stiff for the first couple of days afterwards but I seem to be back to normal now. So so pleased with myself

I have to compliment Laura as well for taking care of me. I explained what had happened last Nov and she said we'd take it easy and we did. Talking to me helped with not worrying about things and we talked about the future as I'd very much like to go back there again and do one of the longer rides. I have explained to Laura that I've got M.E. and she said that the best thing for me to do was to try a 2 hour one next when I'm ready and see how I fair. They'd do a one on one with me so I'd get an instructor to myself and just see how far I progress in to the hack, if I can do the 2 hours all well and good if not then they can deal with me and help us all get back safely to the yard. I can't say fairer than that. Here's to more happy hacking in 2012. I'm really glad I've been brave enough to have a go at this so soon, I think its only been around 8-10 weeks at most since the last one.
