Worst horse fall

Whats the worst horse fall you have ever had?

I've been reasonably lucky (touch wood  ) and I havent broken anything when riding but I've had a few bad falls ,i've been bucked into an arena wall (probably my worst fall) ,my horse likes to buck when canter bareback (he gets excited) so i have fallen off a few times when he does this . I've fallen off over fences once or twice but nothing too serious .

Overall in my 7 years of riding  I have fallen off 14 times

what about you guys? whats the worst fall you've had and how many times have you fallen off?

Re: Worst horse fall

I think my worst fall has to be when I was jumping in one of my lessons and the pony took off about a metre too early and flew up in the air as he landed i completely lost my balance toppled off and landed(somehow) in front of the pony as he procedded to trot on over my head kicking me twice. Sat up laughed and cried got back on and jumped the jump properly. After felt very lightheaded. Ouch

Re: Worst horse fall

i cant quite decide my worst ?

1. my pony had some sort of rearing or bucking attack & i fell of behind getting my hand caught in the reins & nearly breaking my fingers then as he cantered off he kicked me in the hips.

2. then once i had jumped a jump but there was a higher jump about three strides infront that i didnt want to do & the pony thought we were going to do. So, my mum panicked & stupidly jumped infront of the pony which made him jump to the side... to cut a long story short i fell underneath him and he trod on my chest

Uhhh that took forever LOOOOOL ;)

Re: Worst horse fall

I had my first fall ever yesterday in the whole three years of me riding haha:') Well my horse was a bit out of control going towards the jump and I thought he was gonna jump it! So I got ready to go into my jp then and the last second he spun round, throwing me head first over the jump and onto the floor:') I was laughing but I have a massive bruise on my leg and I felt dizzy when I got back on again!!  xx I guess that has to be my worst because it's the only one haha:) xx

Re: Worst horse fall

I have fallen off loads of times and luckily nothing serious and mostly down to silly mistakes or my horse spooking at silly things. I have had one nasty fall which really knocked my confidence it took my about 4 months to get back on a horse again... I was out on a hack with my friend riding one of her horses which was a 17hh cobxshire, we were cantering along a path and all I can remember was his head going down and pulling the reins out of my hands and then his whole front end went down and everything went black... I remember waking up and this big old cob staring down at me... As I got up I quickly realised that something was wrong with my arm and that my side was really hurting... I just panicked and screamed for my friend who luckily came riding back, jumped off her horse and helped me up and back on to the horse... we only walked back but I was in agony and gripped on to the saddle all the way to keep me upright... we got backed to the yard and I couldn't cope so we dialed 999... I went to hospital and has x-rays which revealed a badly broken collar bone, two bruised ribs, fractured wrist and concussion... lovely!! I was bandaged and drugged and sent home to rest... I couldn't do anything properly for a month and once I had my final x-ray about 2-3 months after the accident and everything was pretty much back to normal it took me another month to go near a horse and then I finally got back on to ride but it took me a while to get my confidence up again...

Re: Worst horse fall

This was not me but my sister

we HAD  a 4 year old  horse called henry(16.2) who was a pure thourabred he was kind gentle and everthing we needied but too giddy

he was improving rappidly when ridden so the instructor didnt lunge him before ridden  they were troting over poles and kicked one he spooked and went thundering(like a race horse) around the outdoor menage my sister was hilding on verywell but losing balence in her styrups and ,made the mistake of leaning forward he went faster she was losing more balence by the minute and fell in to a wooden fence with cobble stones underneatth my mum came charged across the menage and picked my sister up with the instructor and kept covering her up with horse blankets they called 999 3 times and thrn EVENTUALLY a ambulance came but it was a drug one for alcholics but they took her the whole night she spent at the hosp all high on drugs while they did an scan

i was not there so the next morning i woke up with my sister on the couch with a MASSIVE purple bandage on her leg and on her hand she had broken a leg and 2  fingers

we sold henry for free and her went to a training place wher he could be taught the basics again i still miss him so much becouse i never got to say goodbye  :( miss you henry

Horses mean everything to me ,sometimes i wonder how my life would be withought my pony coco it would be miserable sad and i would just be alone but i hope i have a looonggggg time before that !!

Re: Worst horse fall

I have been riding for four years and I have fallen off 15 times HAHA

my worst fall was when I was cantering (about 18 months ago) and the horse I was on suddenly swerved. I fell off, did a forward flip and landed *ow* on my back. I was winded and nearly couldn't move for about a week, which was bad because I had another riding lesson in three days time hehe :D
