Worst horse fall

Whats the worst horse fall you have ever had?

I've been reasonably lucky (touch wood  ) and I havent broken anything when riding but I've had a few bad falls ,i've been bucked into an arena wall (probably my worst fall) ,my horse likes to buck when canter bareback (he gets excited) so i have fallen off a few times when he does this . I've fallen off over fences once or twice but nothing too serious .

Overall in my 7 years of riding  I have fallen off 14 times

what about you guys? whats the worst fall you've had and how many times have you fallen off?

Not fallen off many times, and when I have I have been pretty lucky!

I was bucked off once when Poppy started bucking when a distant horse neighed. I landed flat on my back and couldn't ride for several months (I have a dodgy back D:)

another time I was riding a rather enthusiastic Breeze over a small log jump. she jumped HUGE over is and I flipped over her head (so nearly landing on my head!). she looked at me like 'what are you doing down there?!'. we did it again and she was sooo careful, just a very slow trot which was so sweet of her and unheard of!!

Re: Worst horse fall

Im pretty lucky too ;) My pony is mental and has done just about everything to chuck me off, but the one time she was being good was when i fell off!! We were jumping (tiny tiny jumps!) and when we landed, she went one way and i went the other. I stupidly tried to stand up but of course at that speed i just injured myself! I sprained my ankle and couldnt put any weight on it for two weeks! Ive now learnt to tuck and roll!!

Re: Worst horse fall

my worst fall was when i was 15 years old,and me and my mates were riding along the forestry in the strong wind, all four of us were singing and dancing to music, at the end of a field we came accross a cattlegrid.this was to stop motorbikes coming through, but there was no possible way to go around this cattlegrid, and so we turned bak for the yard... we came accross a long strip of grass that went on for 10 minutes and we decided to gallop, we were galloping as fast as we could, pushing and pushing to win the race, as the girls caught up with me and started overtaking me, my horse turned very naughty, and started rearing and bucking, at first i could control her fine, but then as she started getting stronger, i needed to actually saw her mouth with the bit, minutes later she went t jump a brick wall, wich was 4 foot tall , i had never jumped that high before, so i went with my instincts and pulled her away, she reared again, and swung me off her neck, i landed on a huge rock and hurt my back badly, still with the reign in my hand , and my foot in the stirrup, she began to gallop off with the other horses, dragging me with her, i let go off  her reign and eventully took my foot out of the stirrup..... i eventually caught her by a field with long grass, while she was munching all she could eat, i got way with a bruised coxick, and thank god it wasnt anything worse!<>

I've generally been quite lucky really, although lately I seem to have fallen off loads.. :/ Fell off at work yesterday - was riding a horse, generally quite good on the flat but no one told me it didnt jump fillers!! So my boss says jump to jump this jump (about 2ft high and with 2 little yellow fillers in) trotting towards it steadily, thought he was going to jump, and at the absolute last minute he changed his mind and I went flying off over his shoulder straight into the jump, so now have a big graze all up my back from the wooden poles (which really hurt to land on!) and sore neck, back and arms.. But mostly just embarassed I fell off so easily!!

Re: Worst horse fall

Most of my falls havn't been to bad but had a lot of bucking and sort of destroyed all my confidance. I have been pulled off horses that went mad(got pulled off a 12.2 by my uncle after it had a fit when I asked it to trot.) I've done handstands down a horses neck, I broke my arm during the first race of a mounted games rally thing and my last one (its kinda silly)

* I was nervous and this was one my old pony who I was just to nervous to ride by the time I sold her.

But we had to go into canter and she was in one of her 'moods' and would not move. So I got put in behind a 6 year old horse and got told to canter behind him.So Heaher thinks its a race and takes off bucking at a all out gallop round the arena. Well, I stay on (every body who saw it thought I had a seat like glue *my secret lots of bucking and you adventually just stick to it*)and we stop adventually. But about 10 mins later we walk out of line to do a jump (about 60-70cms) and one buck. I come off heather takes off and somehow the bridle comes off also.

So after surving a galloping bucking bronco show one small buck gets me off? Yea told you its kinda silly.

It's ok if you give up as long as you come back later to try again.

Re: Worst horse fall

spotsandstars - thank you!! unfortunately managed to fall off again today - exercising my brothers horse, which was very fresh, huge buck with his head between his knees :( tore loads of skin off my hand trying to hang on to the reins, which is really gross! Think I'm going through a falling off patch at the moment...
