Re: Worst horse fall

A young mare I was riding half took off to the second element of a triple, changed her mind and ducked out sharply. I flew off, landed with my foot twisted right round and mangled my knee !!! It's taken two years for the swelling to finally go down.

I also knocked myself out on a cross country course once when my stirrup snapped riding (way to fast) downhill.

Those are probably my worst falls ... I've been lucky to never actually break a bone although tbh I'd rather have broken my knee as a nurse told me that bones heal faster and better than ligaments !!!

Mine probably has to be When i was riding out on my friends horse with her on another one - and all of a sudden my horse started to gallop down the road.. turning into a bucking bronco - so i came off on the road.. thankfully i didn't actually hurt myself.. the shock of it was the worst part i think!

Re: Worst horse fall

I've had a few over the years. When I was 11 I was bucked off my horse, who then stood on me. That was very painful and not nice at all.

Not so long back I had a horse spook and fall over, landing on top of me.

Probably worst two, but I have had plenty of other ones too.

Re: Worst horse fall

Many moons ago I was doing cross-country on my gee-gee.  He tapped the jump with a front leg which unbalanced him, consequently I became unbalanced and came out the saddle doing a dive landing head first on the hard ground.  I lay there for a while thinking with a fall like that I must have broken my neck.  Thankfully I had no injuries.  My mother was watching from a distance, and there was a tree in her field of vision, so all she could see were my two legs sticking out motionless.  Needless to say, I got back on and finished the course

Re: Worst horse fall

I've ridden for 7 years and I know this sounds like I'm a terrible rider but I've only fallen off once - when I forced myself to when my pony (12.2hh) tripped and fell on her knees I had to jump off. Touch wood, I won't fall off soon but I can't say that my pony is very unpredictable. apparently I have a good seat tho...

worst fall

ouch...some of these made me cringe =/

well, my worst ones would be one in the riding school, my instructors last lesson with us before she had her baby and the horse i was riding fell after a small jump, i went sailing over his head and landed on mine smacking into the boards of the indoor, i got whiplash and was a laughing stock at the staff meeting for the pub the day after when i couldn't move my neck =( im still suffering with it 6 yrs later

then 2 years after that i was riding my bosses horse for the first time and when i asked it to canter it threw me head first into a fence =/ i got concussion and promptly bought a new hat...this horse also nearly borke my foot while i was pulling its mane when it decided it wanted to know who was coming into the barn...my foot still has a hoof shaped bruise on it in cold weather

then...we have the sandman years =/ the first time i rode him he freaked out at something (probably his own shadow) and eventually dumped me infront of him, he stood on my ribs and cracked one...the year after (with some rides where i didnt fall off in between) i rode him in the paddok again with no leader, he freaked at something (think this time it was the ground sunk as he trotted over it =/ ) and he threw me off again infront of him, and stood on my back, had a lovely red hoof just above my bum, could have been a slagtag for its placement, lol...after this i keep getting a trapped nerve in my back if i lean wrong and either one or both of my legs go dead, worst feeling ever, especially when your'e untacking a pony at time and i had to cling on to its back so i dint collapse in a heap of tack =/
