Freaking out!

So I had the vet out for my 15 year old tb mare today as she's seemed like she can't be bothered to lunge for the last couple of days, a little bit unsteady on her feet afterwards.

So when shes listening to her she says she's got a loud murmur but her temp and lungs are normal and she's still scoffing her food like there's no tomorrow! But she wants to take blood and run it as in rare cases it can be heart failure :-/
Then she asks me to get her out and lead her in hand away from her, try to get her to trot away and she just wouldn't move from a walk then the vet comes up and says 'is she pregnant?!' she obviously saw the shock on my face and when I said 'no, well not that I know of!' she said 'I'll just check' nothing came up on the physical rectal exam but because she's had a few foals she wants to do a ultrasound.
She's coming back on Friday to do the ultrasound and to talk about the lab results... I got really scared and asked if she was going to die.. She laughed and said shes a bit of a hatstand but not going to drop dead.
Now ive googled horse heart murmurs read about heart failure etc and freaked myself out.
I wish it was Friday already :(

Oh bless you, waiting for results is horrid, and Vets do freak you out sometimes - I know I have spent 2 years of waiting days and days for results and always being given the "worse case scenerio" instead of the best!

Let us know what happens.

I once had an elderly TB with a pronounced heart murmur, he had it for years and we hacked out regularly with no probs.  I wouldn't have taken him XC or anything though, but he was fine to just plod and play with.

No advice to offer but just to wish you the best of luck & send some healing vibes your mare's way.  My mare had a blood test when they thought she might be pregnant...surprised that the vet needs to do an ultrasound but I guess there's good reason for it :o)
