Any ideas why Misty's so much calmer after a day away from Grass??!

For a while now Misty's being a bit of a bouncy/crazy pony and I'm really struggling to school her as she refuses to do simple things she knows how to do, jogs all the time and just wont listen much!!   Because of the awful gales and rain in our area yesterday all the horses were kept in day and night. When I rode today I was expecting even more energy pinging out from all angles of her body with her being in her stable for a full 36 hours - the funny thing is she was an absolute ANGEL!!! She listened to everything I asked, working in a nice, low relaxed outline without me even asking for it and just generally perfect. Her poo was a really pale colour which made me think is there any way it's the grass that's sending her scatty, as she hadn't had acces to any for 36 hours?? Any ideas would be much appreciated!! xx

Yes it could be the grass that is affecting her. Danser used to ride really well straight from the stable where she has always been a nutter if she goes in the field first. It could be that sugars are too much for her to cope with, the grass is still growing here!!!

Grass in the summer has lots of accesiable sugars in it. But being winter her grazing should be quite poor!! Unless your grass is just really good!! Maybe she's just really sucseptible to grass and its fizzes her up easily.

Did you do anything else like cutting down her hard feed because you knew she'd be in?

No I didn't cut her feed down at all, she had exactly the same as normal except obviously an extra haynet of haylage on top of normal due to being in.  Our grass is still quite long because the field was rested for months before they went in about 3-4 weeks ago. x

Probably was the grass then - ours get given a bit extra every day, and they still go for grass before they go to the hay, so I guess it's still quite yummy and energising.
