Back up Plan

Yesterday I managed to take Sabrina out and took her a walk in hand from 9.30 am about 11am tried to take her back through the way she came, no way, but thought some ladies coming to see her about behaviour would sort her out. Guess what a big no and had to put back up plan into action which was get a horse lorry for her, and somewhere to go, the place had been asked about when collecting hay so that were she went no problem into a livery Yard. Today she went out with another Warmblood Mare who was also being a pain since she lost her pal a few weeks ago so they teamed up after a small tussle, but tonight found both of them and the small pony they were with in a different field, between them opened a gate to join another group of horses, I think it must be my girl as she is quite a character, but followed the others back to the stables.

Have you decided to keep her at a livery yard for a while then?

|'m glad she's on a livery yard now Kevin. I'm sure its her way of telling you that's what you both needed.   So did the behavior ladies come out and weren't able to get her back through the garage?

Re: Back up Plan

The behaviour ladies could not get Sabrina to do what they wanted either, so she is going to be kept at those stables as she has made friends with another Warmblood Mare who was also a pain after her last friend left and has been very difficult, it seems to be a Warmblood thing especially a Mare. One of the ladies from the Self Help group I run said did I think I had been sold a pup, could not help it, said no a horse, evryone fell about laughing.

Re: Back up Plan

I have to agree with the thoughts of everyone...it sounds like she has chosen what's right for her and maybe she will now be less "fire breathing dragon" more happy mare willing to behave :) it also saves you having to get her that companion as I'm not sure a young horse would have been a good idea for her from what I gather...plus on a yard you have people who can help you out with advice etc and you have people around to ride with you if you want :) Massive Hugs for Sabrina and good luck Kevin please keep us updated on how shes getting on :)

Kevin thats brill to hear she's settled in with the other mare!!

Make take a couple of weeks, but once she's settled I'd get a behaviourist- slightly better one, to have a look at her. I'd come over for you and work her a bit but..different countries and all ;D

Fingers crossed this works out for you xxx

Re: Back up Plan

Glad to hear she's now got herself a friend (or should that be partner in crime given their recent behaviour?) albeit in unplanned circumstances. As has already been said it saves you having to buy a companion for her and if it's helping the other mare too then so much the better. At least you've got a few extra pairs of hands available if you need them now as well. Fingers crossed that the extra space and having horses to play with mellows her a bit.

Really glad for you both Kevin, but dont stress if shes still a bit problematic for a while, she'll take a while to settle and be a bit overexcited for a while! 3 whiles in one sentence!

Re: Back up Plan

Glad she's found a friend, Kevin, and some space to play in - it sounds ideal for her, even if probably more expensive for you, but you may be able to get her settled, and eventually get some riding in.

Fingers crossed for her, and for you xx
