Very sore legs!

My mare has got mud fever on around her pastern and heels, which I have been treating with hibiscrub and baby oil. However she has been rubbing the tops of her back legs sore as well. She has rubbed them so much she has made them bleed. She is very hairy and people have sugested it may just be due to sweating.

I was just wondering if this irritation is connected to the mudfever or if it is a different problem? And what people have found most effective to stop the itching and encourage new hair growth.

Many thanks
