right for the first time in years my horse (tb x id) is currently wintering out. She hasn't been clipped as i can now only ride at weekends as have no school so figured there was no point. In fact she's not even on hard feed yet she's doing amazingly well on good hay and a bowlful of carrots. It makes me laugh to think what rug she'd normally be wearing now and all she's in is a lightweight with a little bit of fill just got to resist the urge to dig out the heavyweights lol in fact it's actually quite nice to see her all wooly for a change I'm going to wait till spring then she'll have a massive triming session all ready to start showing :)

Good for you! Mine is also still naked in the field. We moved yards a few months back, and normally he would be in at night by now but we are keeping them out until the weather really gets cold. He is a welsh though so pretty tough - he hadnt set eyes on a rug when i bought him as a 3 year old or spent a night in a stable, so i know he can cope! Hes like a massive hot water bottle!

Sabrina is using the stable as a field shelter having the doors opened 24 hours, she sweats up very easily but will get better as Lara was the same alot is nerves. She has no coat at the moment only has a sweat rug when all of a lather. Its a funny year with some of the trees just losing their leaves just wet and damp and leather work going mouldy. Keeping a watch as today is nippy, Archie the Cat has velcroed himself to the frontroom fire as also has my wife, Chloe the cat has decided she loves the warm top of the dustbin with steamed hay.

Gypsy Gold does not chink & glitter.It gleams in the sun and neighs in the dark.Tonka & Lara my beautiful horses RIP, Nelson & Chloe the cats.

Yeah, my two are naked as well - they've had lightweights on a couple of nights when it was both wet and windy, but they're both nice and woolly.

I do get a bit precious about Bracky tho, as she does lose condition now in the colder weather, so have started her on her senior condition mix that she has added to her feed in the winter.

I was told by the rescue center that Monty didn't wear a rug all last winter - however, I think that as they had a huge barn, covered in straw, and with loads of hay that all the horses could go in whenever, he probably spent most of his time in there stuffing his face, lol !!

But he and Bracken take the same size rugs, and as I always have a load of them about, he'll be well equipped for when he does need one.

 Good on you! stay strong and leave it as long as you can. My cob x is naked and will be until it gets really really cold as he looks like a woolly mammouth already! My friends horse id x is still naked too. She's normally in a lightly filled rug by now but trying to toughen her up after such a hard winter last year. She's got very fluffy which is unlike her and seems really happy about being naked! They are on the slightly tubby side (colours even has a muzzle on still)  so can cope with bit of chill as we luckily have a huge winter field they've just gone into!

i have had my warmblood x fully clipped and he has a medium weight rug on the outdoor and in the stable. I find that been clipped for winter is better for work as otherwise he just ends up drenched in sweat from all work he does :(

I love to see them snug in rugs :)

Just thought of another up side of less rugs - my rug cleaning bill will be a lot less!  also mine would be totally naked but she's a complete mud monster so saves me time on grooming! but i will miss not seeing her all snuggled up in her lovely stable rugs.

I do love rugs my friend has about 18 for her horse literally obsessed with rugs lol.

I hate my horse been muddy it really drives me mad but now am learning to accept it otherwise am going to have a massive battle of cleaning and grooming whenever he is in !

It will be getting ready for shows that will cause me time lol
