help me get falling off out of my head!!!!

hi when i jump my horse he normally allways clears it but he went through a stage of refusing every single jump but has now got better and is back to his normal self of clearing the with room to spare but now whenever i face a jump i think hes going to refuse it again and i just imagin falling off over the jump. and people say to think about getting over but i just can't stop thinking about it! when i went to a cross country open day i literally only went over trotting pole size jumps the whole time, but when i went with friends i went over the big and hard combinations like jumping up and down steps and jumping out of water and into water. i really don't know why but i am allot more cofident with friends. can anyone tell me why and help me get falling off out of my head!!!

Is it when you are feeling less confident your horse stops more? If so they may be the kind of horse that needs you to be confident to get over a jump themselves. You can't rush building your confidence, it just comes. I would suggest building things up slowly, start with small jumps that you are confident with and just keep building it up as your confidence grows. It may take a while for you to get the confidence to jump the bigger ones but once you can it will be worth it because you should both have built confidence together! I hope that makes sense and is a help. And that you still needed help as I see your post was from a while ago! :)
