poison in safe places, rats should not be never horses as they carry viles and that is life threatening.

It has been calculated thay any two thoroughbreds picked at random will on average have more than 13% of their genes in common.

I hated putting poison down at our yard but we have a litter of rats. Mum lost a champion milking goat to viles, it happened one night.

poison in places other animals cant get to, like under the pallets of hay.  Also make sure you dont have pools of water, cos they like their daily swim!  Cats are good deterrents too.  In 9 years of having our own yard, I think we saw only 2 rats a few mice following these rules.  In fact we had more mice in the attic of the farmhouse, which drove me mad!!  My bedroom was directly below it.  They even made a nest in the old chimney behind the wall of my headboard.

A Jack Russel best ratter of all time, I do not use poison, cats are also good, my .22 air rifle was a good shot till my eye problems never missed, most of my family when doing service were rated snipers. The trouble with poison it not only kills the rat but what ever eats the dead rat. My aunt a few years ago now was given a present by her cat a very large live rat which when the cat let go went bombing round her kitchen.

We used to have a stable cat, she did a terriffic job. The day after she arrived the rats disappeared. Unfortunatly our stable cat went missing a couple of weeks ago and since then the rats have come back with vengeance.

You could always rescue a ferral cat or two ponyheadlimelight. That way your giving a cat a job and a home.
