Should I put him on loan?

Hi there, I've just registered and have no idea what i'm doing lol !!......so much so I posted something but I don't think I did it right........soooo I'm posting it again :)

I have an ex racer whom I have had for 4 years.  He is so good (slightly unpredictable...about twice a year!) but generally a sweetheart.  My concern is that over the last few months I have struggled to find the time to ride (work and general life) and even with the light nights now, only manage once a week.  I feel so guilty that my nearly 12 gorgeous horse is not being used a lot but he seems happy and certainly loves me.  Do i go with the flow or put him up for loan? We have only ever been happy hackers BTW!

A horse probably isn't that bothered if he's ridden or not, he's just happy eating grass and being turned out with his mates, and if you're happy with him, then I'd say keep him.

I suppose if you think he ought to be fitter then you could advertise for someone to ride him sometimes....xx

thank you grey and bay for your comments....love the pic BTW...... so nice to know your views.  I think i'm doing the right thing in keeping him, couldn't bear anyone else to ride him and if i put him on loan I would always think that he would wonder "where's Mum" xx

Exactly that!!! I dont know that I could let just anyone ride my boys... there would have to be a lot of trust or someone I knew...

Tbh I feel exactly the same about someone loaning or riding my horse, so perhaps it was a silly comment to make, but if there was someone you know and trusted, then it could be ok........? xx

Maybe you could get a sharer who you don't mind riding him and can trust, who can would be able to ride once or twice in the week. That way he will still be excerised and you can also recieve some money!!!

I understand completely though how you feel as i'm doing exams ATM so i fiding it diffuclt for time to ride. However, i definetley think you shouldn't put him on loan and see how things go and pherhaps think of a sharer if time is becoming too difficult!!!

I'd say if he's happy and you're happy then that's all that counts! If you were wanting him worked a little more then it may be worth looking into getting a sharer to come ride him a few times a week
