I think it's a very starchy feed, so would definitely put weight on, don't know if it causes fizziness, tho......

Also, what was she fed before - changing feed should ideally be done gradually, so as not to upset her tummy.

I would be inclined to perhaps phone a feed company and ask for their nutritionists advice - Allen & page, Dengie, Spillers, Baileys, etc.

Hope you get on ok xx

I would try a conditioning feed first and see if that makes a difference.  Barley is good for weight gain but some horses do react to it.  Mine doesnt get fizzy but she gets spooky so I try to minimise it.  I give her oil added to her feed instead.  I feed her a conditioning mix.  It does have barley in it tho, but she wont eat cubes.

You could try alfa oil.  Its good for weight gain and doesnt cause fizziness cos its a fibre based feed.

You might find tho with the good grass coming through that shel start to put weight on without having to do anything.

mine tb does fine on barley but alot of horses getting fizzy/spooky. A really good feed is allen & page calm and conditioning as i've not heard of any horses getting fizzy on it. I agree with greyandbay and vik1. I'd speak to the old owner  and also ring the feed companies.

It has been calculated thay any two thoroughbreds picked at random will on average have more than 13% of their genes in common.

My warmblood gets Allen and Page Calm and Condition made up like a soup consistency to maintain his weight through the winter, and when he's out jumping every weekend then he gets micronised flaked barley as well.  He doesn't get fizzy on it, but he did get very fizzy on conditioning cubes.
