Help i've got a napper!!!

Can anyone help me? i have a very sensitive mare and shes started napping in the last 6 months she just wont hack out on her own. She plants, reverses without any concideration for herself or others and rears, bucks and spins. I keep hearing conflicting advice one to go back to basics start with ground work regain respect and the other to ride her through it with my stick until she gives in but in my opinion and my knowledge of her stubboness i really can only see that as a hinderance. i've tried sitting it out but after waiting over and hour last time i gave in as we were just getting more and more frustraited with each other.

I would try some join up with her and ground exercises to build her confidence. Then could you try leading her out in hand on a very quiet lane or track, if you are beside her it may give her more confidence, you could always ask someone else to come along with you for a bit of support. If she responds well to this try hacking her out with someone walking or cycling with you. Sorry that I can't be of more help, wishing you luck with her, Lyn X

Sometimes it can help to have a different rider and you do the ground work.  If you are anticipating her napping she will pick up on it and then you strat freaking each other out.  If you plan to wait it out, give yourself a lot of time - don't do anything just sit, blockig any movement to return home and encouraging her when she starts to move in the right direction.  It's not always easy if the horse starts to throw a strop, so if you're not feeling confident find a way to give in gracefully, maybe asking for a couple of steps backward and then go home.
