I joined an arab forum to ask a bit of advice about Storm.  At first I got a few welcomes which I thought was nice and i got a bit of advice too about the browband saga, which again I thought was quite nice.

However, it seems to be very cliquey on it.  Most are pure bred owners and breeders and they obv all know each other from shows etc.  At the moment, there is a debate about the clipping of foals faces and oofft the bitching!  Plus I asked a question on it about why clip a show horses summer coat and so far Ive been ignored.  I think its a genuine question, do you not think?

Ive asked it twice now on 2 seperate threads and still no answer.  i dont think i fit in there, its almost like you need to have clout in the arab world first

so id just like to say, you lot are nice and friendly and always willing to chat away

I agree it is a friendly forum, even if it can get a bit heated at times!! I also go on other forums and mostly they are all quite friendly aswell, unfortunately one isn't very busy but it is the friendliest one i have ever been on, this one is a very close second. It's the one where we have a camp in the summer and get together and take our horses and have a great weekend.

Its the foals faces they clip, to give more of a dished look, that topic on that forum is brought up every year.

This forum you feel happy to ask a question or post a new topic, without fear that you are going to be shot down in flames,

yeah they were talking about clipping foals faces on one thread and then one person who is for it started another thread asking what peoples opinions were on clipping the older youngster ie yearling and 2 yo's.  She said shed clipped hers the other day in prep for the show season.

I know some show cobs get clipped all year round but I cant see why youd want to clip an arab unless it has a medical condition like cushings.  Their coats are normally fine.

 I agree this a very friendly forum & people here have helped me through many Smartie related dramas (& a few other unrelated dramas!) as well as opening my eyes to some different ways of thinking and I've learnt a heck of a lot from hearing the opinions of people more experienced than myself (yeah that's just about everyone then hehe) and then of course there's all the funny stories :) As to the question of clipping haven't a clue... old YO did once clip her showjumpers through the summer, not entirely sure why as they weren't in what I'd class as extremely hard work but that's not really the same thing is it? 

Correction does much for the horse, but encouragement does more - Unknown

I agree - this is such a friendly forum and so nice to feel welcomed whatever your experience, whatever type of horse you have, or even if you have no horse at all. I read a certain other forum which is used a lot but I would never dare post on it, the people on it are far too scary.

Thanks to everyone on the Your Horse forum for making it such a nice place.

i have to admit that when i first joined this forum i thought you were all a bit cliquey but i thought sod it i'm gonna stick around anyway, glad i did! :D

i've been a member on a few forums and found some of them to be unbearable and others have been great.

I think this forum is brilliant and i have only ever had not even a handful of issues on here, everyone is usually very happy to help and i don't have to worry about what type of questions i ask because people are willing to try and help no matter what it is. The purebred arab in hand world can be a very peculiar place..... That said, they aren't all like that on AL so don't write them all off as being the same.

 

Clipping foal heads is an optical illusion to show off the dish. Clipping the entire horse out at this time of year means you get all the winter coat out in one go and don't have to deal with moult - the horse will then have a very even coat through by its first show without any fluffy bits. Not my cup of tea, but there you go, that's why.

 

I've got two purebreds and a young partbred - I'm a big arab fan. But one of my purebreds experienced the not so pleasant side of the arab in hand world (he was a British National Champion in his day), so I do tend to take that side of things with a large pinch of salt.

I love this forum too and have made some really good freinds on here. There has been the odd dispute but I tend to keep well away from it, people will always have different opinions and will get passionate about the horses they love and their approach so that is to be expected, but I come on here purely to get advice for me and my big fella, support when things go wrong, shout about it when things go right and hopefully help the odd person with a problem they may be having with their horse.

I would definitely say this is one of the friendliest forum's I've been on, I know I can ask a question on here and have it answered without me being made to feel like a complete idiot. I tend to read more than I actually post but this is the first place I head if I need any advice.

 

I've just joined a Highland pony forum since I got Indie and it's very much the same as here.  A lot of the members know each other from showing and breeding, there's some of the top highland breeders on there yet they are all so down to earth, friendly and helpful.
