Hello Im new!

Hey I have ventured across to your horse from horse and hound just to see what its like really! I live in Hertfordshire and have just the one horse at the moment, Snowy :). I have kept him in notts/leics too whilst at uni on a few different yards so know that area a bit! Snowys a 17hh Belgum warmblood who does a bit of everything, so hello from us! I have attached a couple of photos of us but they are not very good as there are never photographers around when you need them and my computer died and deleted all of my good photos from shows etc so I just have what was on facebook! Before Snowy I have had quite a few horses but really lost my nerve and now suffer with this after a few serious falls that meant I couldnt ride for long periods of time! So this is us anyway!

Hello Im new!

Hey

Welcome to the other side lol!!

Snowy is absolutely stunning btw, looks like a bigger version of my old pony Mav. Think we have all suffered with loss of nerves at some point or another and think as you get older loose a bit too as I used to jump on anything but now I'm a bit more wary. Didn't catch your name? :)

My Names Sam, live in Scotland, have been riding 20 years and I own Paris a very grumpy 16.1h Chestnut Mare, she is an ex racer and eventer but mainly I just use her for hacking at the moment as she is suffering from intermittent lameness (poss due to a cracked hoof) but she was in bad condition when I bought her so still trying to get her up to scratch before pushing her any further.

Sure you will find this site very friendly and helpful.

Sam x

Re: Hello Im new!

Hello I am one of the older people on this site have been riding for 44 years and a horse owner for 21 years. I owned a Gypsy Cob called Tonka for 21 years kept him at home lost him last year aged 30 missed him that much I have ended up with a welfare rescue 17.2h Chesnut Mare ex-racehorse who was to be pts unless rehomed as she was in such a bad way, took 3 months to get her back in condition and a total of 6 months to trust me and bonding proving to be a gentle loving horse told not a typical Chesnut Mare. The problem with my riding was I was taught to ride the old fashioned way with very long stirrups and because of this I get the horse to fall on me not being thrown off on a regular basis, the new mare managed to drop out the side door dropping a shoulder and bucking when I first had her while I was adjusting stirrups a new and interesting experience of being thrown in 40 years instead of being squashed.

Gypsy Gold does not chink & glitter. It gleams in the sun and neighs in the dark.Tonka & Lara my beautiful horses RIP, Nelson & Chloe the cats.

Re: Hello Im new!

Hi thank you all :) Sorry my names Daisy the little bit of important info I missed out on!! Just realised I didnt have a jumping pic in so thought I would add one :p. Stable stains are lovely in a grey, hes currently brown and desperate for a bath!! Not looking foward to his next dressage, or jumping outing in fact as he cant go in his current state..... :p. Anyone want to come and bath him for me, you can have a free ride if you do haha!

kevinhiatt your mare sounds like fun......... I got squished when my horse went over backwards as I had the attitude of "never let yourself fall off" (it broke my back then learnt to bail). Then old safe as houses cob spooked at a chicken and got me airlifted to hospital (worried about my back) - fortunatley only torn the ligaments in my knee though. That fixed, sold him to a lovely lady as he really was the ultimate confidence giver (that was the only time I ever fell off him in 3 yrs and we did XC, hacking, jumping etc). Got snowy from a person who lied (vet given us a full refund for the vetting when we found out he was linked to the dealer!) and he spent the first 8 months reguarly bronking me off, bolting and being a retard which was it for me, I lost all my confidence! Fortunatley he has now grown up and has actually turned into a completley bombproof horse through my perseverence and not giving up on him so hes the safest on the yard and hacks out with all the babies etc. He very rarely spooks and has never ever refused at any type of jump!

This forum seems really friendly, Im loving it already :)

Hi and welcome to the forum. Snowy looks lovely. I also have a grey but as he is still a baby, he's 4 in May, he is still very dark but getting lighter.

Re: Hello Im new!

Thank you richard, I also use that in his tail but yes I will be using it on his whole body next time hes bathed - lots of kettles of water are going to be needed for that one! And yes Micki its amazing how quickly they seem to go light, when I first got him his dapples were incredibly dark but now are really faded and he has started to get a bit of a fleabitten coat coming through for the first time in the last month :)

Re: Hello Im new!

Snowy's a bit of a looker eh!? Always had a thing for large greys. Anyway, welcome Daisy!

It's lonely in the saddle since the horse died.

Hi Newbie.  Love dapple greys too and used to ride one called Griska who I loved the bones of.  Now just have a crusty Fresian X who is typically marish and love to bits.  Hopefully you will like us all here.  You've had some pretty horrendous accidents!
