I did 40 mins of schooling and work over trotting poles. Both my horse and I were wrining wet through with sweat! Certainly is exercise!

how can anyone say it isn't exercise and doesn't count as a sport

 

Horse riding is the ONLY sport where men and woman compete at the same level in the same classes!!!

I totally agree, my friends are always saying exactly the same things. I feel like slapping them in the face to be honest, i mean, they should ride in two comps every weekend and an hour jumping lesson every night and see how that feels! I get so annoyed when people say this, it really winds me up.

alot of other exercises are more strenuous but when your riding alot or riding without stirrups or... well i could go on riding is definately an exercise!!!!!!! x

I was reminded of this thread over the weekend when I came across two photos of my riding. One was taken in March last year when I started, the other in Sept this year. In the space of 18 months I've gone from having what can only be described as tree trunk legs/thunder thighs   to legs half that size.

 I always find that after an intense hour lesson that I find walking home really hard afterwards as I'm so tired! Everyone thinks you just sit there, they don't understand that you have to be fit to ride a horse.

if riding was easy, it would be called football. If people say riding isn't exercise, they should try getting a very calm laidback horse into walk let alone trot/canter etc. Pffft, annoys me when people say that.
