 Okayy I know that the seat size depends on the rider, but I know they also shouldnt go past the last rib. 

I'm trying to get my ponyy (Star) a saddle sorted out, (I am getting a saddle fitter to fit her in the new year now) But still I am curious, about what sorta size saddle we can get away with, like seat size. She is 14.2hh and an arab x whatever my other pony is which I think is some sort of native, but my pony is more like an arab than what shes crossed with. I am fairly tall, I'm 5ft7 and I weigh about 10stone, but I'm not actually fat =/ 

 

Anywayyy what I want to know is what size seat you think we need? As I would say personally myself I need a 17.5, but in the tackshop I went to look at saddles a few days ago said I couldnt have bigger than a 17inch on a 14.2hh. Baring in mind my pony is 3 years old, and should grow some more. But yeah what do you think? I'll attach a picture of my other pony, as her saddle is a 17inch, and personally I dont really like it, as I feel like my bum is hanging off it :L 

Feel free to tell me about your experiances especially if you have 14.2hh! It will really help alot. Thankk youuuuu. Okay theres a few pics. Tell me what you think? 

Btw the pony in the pictures isnt the one I want a saddle for, thats Lexi, shes also 14.2hh, and is Star's mum.

Also just to add my friend has a 14hh pony and he came with a 18inch seat saddle =/ Nevertheless he did buck. alot.

He/she's not particularly short backed so I would had thought you would be okay with a 17.5 inch. I would recommend you got a saddle fitter out to have a look if you're not 100% on fitting saddles. x

I had a 14.2hh arab x welsh D and he had a 17in.  It couldnt of been any bigger or it would of sat too far back.  I think your bum looks alright in it tbh.  You could maybe get away with another half inch on her.  Its hard to tell through pics but I dont think anything bigger.

I did say in the post that the one on the horse im riding is 17inch. And she isnt the one im buying it for, its for my 3 year old. If you actually read the post I wrote =/ 

 

This is my 3 year old who I want it for.

Blimey no need to get so narky! What an I say it's been a long day and I skim read your post. Only trying to help.

 

Have you got a side on view of the pony, that ones at too much of an angle to see the length of her back.

Thanks, really? I feel too big for it :L Its not for her though, its for my chestnut one, I was using the pics of Lex to show what Im like in a 17inch saddle on a 14.2hh but i do want another saddle for her ahha. yeahh, I think my chestnut one is a bit shorter in the back than Lex anyway, so I'm starting to think that I wont be able to get away with anything bigger than 17 on her.

Lol no worries. Could really do with one of her where she is at a 90 degree angle to camera, that pic again is a little at an angle. From what I can see I think you will be okay with a 17.5 but you would be best getting a saddle fitter to have a good look.

I was thinking that and have just looked over my laptop but the ones where she is at the side are foal ones so they arent gonna be any good :L Thanks, I will deffo get a saddle fitter out, as she doesnt exactly have a defined whither either so (yn) Thanks anyway :) I will try and get a side view pic at somepoint, but i was just generally intrested in seat sizes as what the guy in the tack shop said has been bugging me (N)

It is the right thing to do get a qualified saddle fitter out, I am 6ft 2in and 15 1/2 stone my horse was a Gypsy Cob 15.2h fitted with a Lovett & Ricketts Eventing Saddle 18" as the best fit lasted 21 years but had to get fitter out for my new horse an ex-racehorse 17.2h Chesnut Mare for a new Saddle as old one did not fit she has very high withers which are as big a pain as no withers with the cob, new saddle 18" Eventing Saddle by The Saddle Company Walsall and they made it to measure. Yes I agree the saddle has to fit the horse not the rider but with everything a compromise.

I had a 14.2 coloured cob up until April, and he was in a 17.5  I had a very good saddle fitter out and tried loads of different saddles.  I know you say the length may not be long enough, but very often feeling as if you're going to slip off the back is because the cantle is very low.  I tried one where I felt like I was sitting on a dinner plate and could literally whizz off the back at any moment!  I tried one that was so high at the back I felt I wouldn't be able to swing my leg over to get off, but that's actually the one I ended up with.  Try as many as you can.  The horse I have now had an 18 inch saddle cos hubby rode him, but now I've taken it down 1/2 an inch and feel it makes a big difference.  I am 5ft 7 and 10 1/2 stone, so no, you're not overweight!  We both have Bates saddles and highly recommend them, especially as your horse is only young, as they have the adjustable bar inside.  Hope this helps.
