RE: How can I overcome my nerves of big jumps?
all you have to remember is that your horse can do it! this is fantastic as that means you dont have to ride too much over the jump, he will take you over it! all you have to concentrate on leading him in the right direction!
my advice, speakin from experience, is ask someone to do a bit of jumping with you, just so you have some company, and ask someone else to do the jumps for you and just turn it into a game! take it in turns to jump and do a bit of chase-me-charlie, jump offs, etc and just anything that you enjoy!! make sure there is no pressure to jump any higher than you feel comfortable, but ask the person doing the jumps to put them a little at a time without you realising!
the idea is that if you dont know how high you are jumping, then you wont realise that it is as high as it is!! even if you dont jump as high as you hoped, just remember that there is no hurry!!!! if you only jump an inch higher every time, after 10 jumping sessions, thats 0.25m!! just take it gradgually and any improvement, even a tiny one, is an improvement at the end of the day!!!!
good luck and hope this gave you some ideas!! x
