What to do next...

A couple of months ago i was riding my arabxcob leo in his field, Bareback. He had his bridle on and i was wearing my hat like i normally do. But he walked into his shelter before he decided to talk out. But he got spooked and bolt. I couldnt duck in time so wacked into a peice of wood and fell off backwards. Went to hospital my arm was put into cast which meant i couldnt ride. But i went up to see him everyday and he would try and nudge my arm or chewing the cast thinking it was a play toy bless him.

Once a week had gone i went back and foudn out that it was tissue damage and was told to take it easy for the next week but like more people i got straight back on with my arm in a splint and started riding him again but with a saddle and by the second day was jumping him with my friend. (Which he injoyed by the way he kept bucking(:) But my uncle, dad and mum wont let me ride bareback but i know it was my fault if i had not of let him walk into the shelter i wouldnt have fallen off. But i really want to ride him bareback again so he use to it and so he' not scared but i need to boost my confidence and his confident. So i was wondering if anyone had any tips on what i could do.

Thankyou

Hello,

Tbh Leo probably isn't going to be scared about you getting back on him bareback, to him it's probably just the same as you riding him with a saddle. If he's happy with you riding him with one, he probably won't be worried without!

I imagine it will be your confidence that has taken a knock. You need to take it steady whilst you've got your arm in a splint as you are more vunerable and if you take another fall you could do some serious damage to both your arm and your nerve. I broke my wrist a couple months ago and it goes without saying us horsey people don't take to not riding whilst broken! BUT, you need to do all you can to avoid another injury so I would personally stick to flat work and hacking until your arm is better.

xx

Thank you. Yes brokening something or hurting urself don't make us stop riding. I was so  bored when me mum wouldnt let me ride. Thank you. I think im gonna leave it till summer when my mum not really around because other wise ill never be able to do it. But i want to ride him bareback so that he knows im ganna get back on after a fall as i didnt when i fell off course i was in soo much pain. But i can't wait to get back on again. Thank you xx

if  you have access to a schooling arena, I would suggest trying it there-much safer! ;)
