i would think anything from a 13hh to a 13.3 would be ok decent enough size to still be able to vault onto you could even go a bit smaller if she is that little

I'm 15 and have a 13'2 New forest. I always worry I'm too big for him, but I know that I'm not at all. He's incredibly strong and stocky. I'm only 5 foot one inch so!

It is possible you will have a growth spurt in the next few years. So I would say about 13'2. But a nice, bombproof and easy going 13'2. You don't want a firecracker that is not only too much to handle.. but to big as well!

With Gymkhana it depends on weather you are doing it for fun at shows or joining the MGA.

I'm 18 years old and have a 12hh.2 as I am a memeber of MGA myself and compete on a regular basis. You are not aloud to have anything bigger than 14.1 but you will find that most people in MGA have ponies between 11hh and 13hh as they are better for turning on a six spence and vaulting on and of off.

You also need to practise alot! as these people are supa good, Gymkhana at shows during the summer are like training sessions for me and my pony. I would even go as far as saying that we dont need to try at them and we win because the competition in MGA is at such a higher standard.

Just to put things in prospective it turns out the Normans invaded with horses for there Knights were only 12.2h  and it shows the Knights feet nearly on the ground this came up on time team with them finding a Norman Bit which was only a 4 inch  bit.

That is so true. When I was younger in pony club, these older girls used to laugh at me on my 12.2 until I beat them at jumping a 2ft9 cross country course when their big horses were frightened of jumping the water ditch and my little 12.2 flew over it. Now I'm older and I still ride a 12.2 and she can easily take me! I do love her :P x

My great uncle has an MBE for services to the pony club MGA having lifted the Prince Philip cup at Hoys no fewer than 13 times, and he says "the ponies and the weans need to have a bit o devilment in them" i.e. being a bit wild must help!  My friend's son is currently nearly 14 and in MGA and rides a 12.2, the smaller you can get away with the better for speed and flexibility, and has been said vaulting.
