hacking places

so where does everyone ride out? do you ride mainly on the road, beach, forest etc?

i get alot of each in, but mostly every ride takes me on the ride.

It has been calculated thay any two thoroughbreds picked at random will on average have more than 13% of their genes in common.

Re: hacking places

Most the time I ride on country paths/feilds but sometimes I have no option but to ride on the road (:

Re: hacking places

I am at the mercy of the local farmers lol, we are surrounded by farmland and luckily three of the farmers are very good and allow me to ride around the tracks and use the stubble fields. We have a lovely ride through a little wood and around a reservoir. riding out is a bit limited in the Winter though and I have to go on the road a bit more.

Re: hacking places

All we have is roads where I am, if we go in one direction it leads to a main road which i wouldn't dare cross on Woody yet!

The other way is a quiet country road that goes through a farm, if there are fields with open gates we go in and hack around the outside of it.

Although there is a deserted field about a mile from my riding and we go there and have a gallop every other week.

But other than that, its entirely road hacking unless I can convince someone to take me to the beach in a trailer!

I have a 15 min ride to the forest. That bit is hard surface on the road, but no traffic. In the forest are plenty of little roads and tracks. We also have 5 galopp pistes. The other forest I can`t go to, because on the way is a place where they keep abot 30 foals. They are nosy and come running to have a look, but Starlett just goes mad and dangerous. Still in the forest I go to I can have a 21/2 hr ride which is nice.

Re: hacking places

We have a lot of good hacking around us however you do almost always have to do a little bit of roadwork to get to the bridleways and tracks. We have 3 sets of woods, one small, one relatively long and one HUGE, there's a park with a surfaced bridleway running right through it, bridleways with streams to cross and hills to go over, a few good gallop tracks, a LOT of farmers fields and some beautiful rolling countryside......not bad considering the yard is only about 2 miles from the city centre of Leeds!

Whereabouts in Leeds?  I lived in Whitkirk when I was little!

We have lots of nice hacks round here - you don't have to go on the road if you don't want to and can do the 'round the block' ride through the woods, which is about an hour, including a nice canter or two and lovely views.  Or you can go for about 2 hours past 'the Arab Farm' which involves a little way along a private road (very rarely meet any traffic).  Or you can go various routes through local villages to the pub etc!  There are longer hacks across country that I've never tried (maybe when the new one arrives??)

Re: hacking places

Im really lucky as all i have to do is go out of my yard gate and im straight out on to miles of Bridleways which then lead into woodlands, i can hack out for 3-5 hours (42 to 60km) and not see a sole this includes any traffic, we do have cross very very quiet lanes to get to diffrent woods we have 5 very large woods to ride around. we also have very quiet lanes again the type you are unlucky if you meet any traffic. Its ideal for very young green horses.

There are a couple of down sides and thats......1, my yard is an hours drive from where i live and 2, its a night mare to get to in the snow even with a 4x4.

Boyfriends come and go but my Arabs are for life
