Why does my New Cob Magic spook?

hi

Magic is my new Cob . Yesterday Evening me and my friend took are Cobs on a hack through some feilds. We were having an easy trot when she suddenly just stopped and her ears went back and she just bolted off . I finally got her back into control and we walked home . We checked her Tack and Teeth and her feet but the was nothing wrong. She is about 5 years and has had a good history??

Please if you have any ideas why write ?????????????????????

Magic's a horse and a flight animal. It just happens sometimes. They and hear things before we do some of the time. That's my opinion, anyway.

It's lonely in the saddle since the horse died.

As Charlotte said, its just a horse kind of thing, all of them react differently, some bolt, some stop dead and some rear. You just kind of have to learn to go with the horse/sit/hold on. Unless its really bad bolting and is bad behaviour, but it sounds like this was a plain old spook.

Seconded. Horses are not machines, pretty much every one of them will have some little quirks, and as Charlotte said, they are a fight or flight animal. Also 5 is not a vastly mature age for a horse, you have to accept that her education is going to be ongoing, maybe you would be better suited to an older animal?

If you are intent on keeping her try some 'spook busting' exercises in the school, getting her used to new things. Also groundwork is a great way to build up a good, trusting bond with a horse.

I'd rather be riding : )

Have you really got a new horse?  You only went to look at it less than 48 hours ago.  If so then I'm pleased for you but I've never known a horse be bought, moved to a new home and already hacking out in 24 hours. If you have checked  teeth etc, the dentist needs to do that not you, and the tack needs to be checked by a saddler so I suggest you get them out first.   I imagine she's bolitng because she's just moved to your house and your already taking her out cantering the first day.  Horses need time to adjust to new surroundings so you must take it slow with her and creat a bond.

er....don't know who to believe but if you are saying the truth then its normal for a horse - she is new and probably doesn't trust you yet - if your lying then don't be ridiculus

Feeling down? Saddle up...

Sorry for my candour, Angel- however, there is no need to keep lying- we're not idiots and we're not stupid- nobody cares if you have/don't have a horse and it's not all about being cliche! It's not the end of the world but just stop lying!

Well if you know its stupid, why did you take her out???? You can't expect a horse to move yards, have a new routine, and a new rider all at once, you've GOT to let her settle down and get used to you, THEN ride, don't be so stupid, for a horse to hack out safely, it needs to trust it's rider to help in scary situations, trust which you do not have and could lead to an accident.

Do the sensible thing and LET HER SETTLE IN, theres no need to rush her
