hi

I have had a suprise from my Mum she has recently been talking to my dad about getting a new horse for real this time because she knows how dedicated i am to them and how much i miss Dusty . She was asking her friends friend about buying her Black arabian mare called Black Magic? She is 15hh and is Black with 3 white socks and a blaze . I dont know what to say ?

Get one of your instructors involved to really decide on whether the horse is right. It all depends on your ability, height etc.

How old is the horse?

What has it done in its past?

What is it like to ride?

What is it like in the stable/field?

What do you intend on doing, eg: hacking, jumping, pony club?

 

Just whatever you do, don't jump into the decision based on looks. Really take into consideration your own ability and be truthful with yourself in order to make the right decision on the type or horse or pony you would best suit.

If you do, its better for the horse itself too. My friend bought a horse based on looks, it was not a novice ride, had some behavioural tweaks required and it was the wrong decision and the poor mare came out worse off, but my friend of course simply sold it off and bought another.

But congrats on your parents potentially getting you another pony. Just take time and consideration into the decision!

Arabian's can be highly strung and very spirited. Have a look at with your instructoer, like the above post said. It's best to get a horse you can really enjoy. Good luck and keep us posted!!

well 'jester' is a one y.o filly called lucy.. 'he' was on a cleveland bay stud website and 'he's' for sale ........ read her posts, it's really weird...

 

who are you Angel10101 really? be honest, we're a freindly bunch and even if you're like me and don't have your own horse, there's nothing wrong with that.. just tell us who you are x

 as your so young i wouldn't go for something so spirited if its a typical arabian it will be a little nuts. ho old is it aswell. it would look gorgeous but thats not a good reason to buy one. if you know your limits i'd get a intrustor from the yard to come have a look with you just to see everything plus if your parents aren't horsey they have a "adult point of view on the horse"

What do you call highly strung and very high spirited????????

Why does everyone class Arabs as this????????

Any horses can be highly strung and high spirited cant they???????
I wish all 5 of my pure Arabs were highly strung and very high spirited ive been with Arabs for 25yrs and ive not found one as of yet still looking ha ha ha

I personally love arabs and would love to own one some day. I've only known two arabs really well and both were very highly strung. Neither were easy to ride and one of them (Dante) I rode in Pony Racing years ago.  He was the fastest pony I've ever sat on. I suppose this gave me the wrong impression that most arabs are a bit of a handfull.  Obviously I'm wrong if none of yours have been like that!

i said they can be. i did allow for the odd few that weren't. I had a PBA and she was brill, could be a bit sharp, so couldnt relax at all when riding her, yet the best horse in the yard for giving confidence.

They are not particularly highly strung but they are sensative so will get wound up if you are nervous, some idiots will also wind them up purposefully to get them to 'show off'. 

 

They have amazing temperaments, quick to learn, loyal, and I love em!

Normally its the owners that make Arabs highly strung.

This year not only have i had 4 of my own Arabs to work but ive also had 3 in to back and bring on as well as so called problem Arabs (had 4 of these in) and once we changed there diret and routine they were fine.

 

Arabs ARE forward going rides they are not plods by far but they are very loyal horses who love to please there owners.

They love to work and love going out and about, they are very intelligant Horses and they do get bored easy so doing diffrent things with them keeps them happy.

 

I trust all my Arabs with my Life including my Stallion they are only difficult ride if you make them a difficult ride.

 

Surly other breeds of horses are just as forward going, just as intelligent horses as the Arab, surly other horses get bored if you do the same thing day in day out with them.

 

The way i look at it is how would i feel if i was them, what would i do in there situration.

 

I got my first Arab (who is now 25yrs old) when he was 6 months old and i only been riding for 6 months i couldnt even canter and yes we have been though a lot of hard times but ive never givien up and its has shown by what we have achived over the 20yrs he has been in work.

 

BUT ALL TO THERE OWN as they say you either like them or hate them same with everything in life.

 

Life is to short so if you like the sound of this horse go and have a look it either feel right or it wont if you have "IFs" then its not the horse for you and you need to look at something else.

If you dont look you be kicking yourself
