So scared i'm going to lose her!!

Hey guys

My 1 years (just) filly has developed Septic Pedal Osteitis and has had to have alot of her pedal bone removed and has been at a vet practice miles away from me which i currrently have no car so cant visit her :( She been there 2 weeks now and vet rang today and has been concerned about amount of pain she seems to be in for a while and now he more concerned and even mentioned I may have to prepare myself to make a decision of when is enough enough.....doing some tests tomorrow also to check everything ok also

I am so scared I love her to bits and she is fantastic I have done so much ground work with her and have a good bond and now thought of losing her is sooooo upsetting

Please keep your fingers crossed for her and if anyone knows anything more about this ocndition and her chances of eventing later in life please please comment good or bad xx

Im so sorry to hear this.  Ill keep everything crossed for you.  I went through something similar a gew years back with Velvets foal.  he developed OCD.  Unfortunately I had to make that dreaded decision.  his condition was too bad that even after the op he would never be able to be ridden and he could easily of broke a leg just carrying on in the field. I was completely devastated.

I dont know anything about you fillies condition Im afraid.  I hope she pulls through it all.

Re: So scared i'm going to lose her!!

 Hey Guys,

Thank you so much for your support!! She had her operation and they were pleased with how it went, she had to say at practice for 3 weeks and has now been home for a week, she has lost alot of condition from the chronic pain and is now suffering from alopecia sue to her system having really gone through the mill but she is still perky, so friendly and not put a foot wrong!!

I am sooo pleased with her, vet been out to do more x-rays and is pleased with progress but worried about few things which hopefully with management will be ok. He has stressed she still has long way to go and may not make it yet but for now I am so happy and love her even more than before she realy is a fighter and y little star :D even if she does look horrendous atm

xx

Re: So scared i'm going to lose her!!

 Hey Guys,

Thank you so much for your support. I can begin to explain how great its been to read this post in times of low!! Its been 5 weeks now since it all began and all seemed to be going well, looked as if infection was gone and tissue was growing back to fill gap where bone was removed. It is becoming such a long process of changing her bandages every other day slowly expanding to every 3-4 days this week, (vry tough job needing about 5 people to hold her and very distressing as painful for her and important done right) however on last bandage change it began to smell. This is not a good sign, AT ALL!! I now hav to g back to changing every other day and if reinfected possibility of more bone being dug out again....I dont know if I or her can cope with this if it happens? In herself she still seems happy and her alopecia has stoped and hair started growing back which has made vast improvement to how she looks. I love her to bits and spend so much time pampering her in stable brushing her, and it upsets me so much to see her cooped up for such a long period of time as she still got at least 5 weeks of this left :(

I put my life savings into getting her.....if I lose her not only will I be devastated I will never be able to afford another :( not good times right now
